Okay these are getting pretty hard to find now. Nice upgrade for the some of the old BX or early 815 boards. See it here. It's a geek special so no discount.
Funny thing is they also have this used one for $149!

EDIT: Okay i guess I should be more specific with this. The reason I posted this is because of 3 things.

1. It's 100Mhz FSB some older Intel server's can't use 133 Mhz. CPU's.
2. All 900's have matched steppings for dual CPU's. (Intel only made one stepping).
3. Look at the prices on the 1 GHz. 100Mhz FSB's and you'll understand why the price is good.

Sure you can, but I've got a perfectly good dual mb in a server that I don't care to replace with a celeron and single cpu mb.

Actually at a reputable vendor like newegg, $65 Soyo SY-TISU i815ep + $43 for 1.2 GHz = $108, but close.

That's not the point for someone who has a working system, possibly in a proprietary case, and just wants a speed boost. For them this could be a hot deal.

All 900's are 100Mhz FSB and all are the same stepping. Intel only made one stepping of the CPU. Some people say they will overclock but I have no experience trying that with these.

who is this a hot deal for? IF the point is saving money, then you can get a motherboard and a 1.6Mhz AMD chip for this same price or less... I just don't see how this 'upgrade' makes sense for anyone, that is an expensive older chip. If I had an old mail server I wanted to upgrade, I would much rather fork out ten more bucks for a chip that would blow this out of the water.

Sorry to sound like a deal-rag but I just cannot see the deal in a 92 dollar chip this slow when you can get a 1.7Mhz AMD for just 70 bucks shipped...

...and the cycle repeats itself

I bought one many moons ago and have it overclocked to 1GHZ in an ASUS CUBX MOBO with a gig of Crucial PC133 at CAS2. We use it as our NH Lan Party Server. The processor runs Ice cold and is stable as hell. For that price I say go for it if you can use it. Good Luck!!!
😀

Ahhh - now I understand why I got so much for mine used on eBay when I unloaded it about 6 months ago. I had bought it cheap from Tiger Direct, used it for about a year, and sold it for what I paid.

minimal downtime? we have several servers that are running on older P3 FCs, and this would be good for us. Why should we sit and rebuild entire domain controllers etc when we can just slap in some faster CPUs real quick and have downtime of like 10 minutes or what have you??? makes no sense to replace motherboards whatever, that's just asking for trouble. And besides, most of the servers that we deal with are Dells anyway, can't exactly just slap in a K7s5a or whatever.....

try to look at different scenarios - AT is not full of a bunch of peeps who build custom PCs...

These are great in the Gateway 6400's too. A lot of people here got in on that deal. I picked up a pair last year. My second one got the matched 933's. The 933's are somewhat higher and you have to worry about the stepping matching up on them if you buy one. Performance is about the same. It's been running 24x7 since then without problems. A Dell 1400SC is next and I'll just sell the 933 out of it. Last will be my AOpen AX6BC Pro II Millennium Edition, which I refuse to give up on. I don't care how slow you say it is, it's still an amazing performer. Runs with anything I put in it. It's my test system for memory and CPU's. Runs with stuff I can't get other systems to even post up with. 140Mhz stable on the good ol' BX chipset. I'll find out just how well one of these CPU's perform on it. Some things just shouldn't be replaced.
