i just bought a new PIII-700 chip retail version Slot 1, when i install it to the computer and i boot up the computer, i saw something blinking on the screen, it says " UNKNOWN CPU ID, MISSING MICRO CODE ", but the computer boot up just like regular on that line of word blinking when i boot the computer, can any one help me? thanks

It sounds roughly like you may need to update your mobo's BIOS for the newer processor. Your board was probably produced before that 700 was available.

Put up more info on your mobo and version #, if any, and note the following:

"The general rule is not to upgrade ("flash&quot😉 the BIOS unless you need to ("if it ain't broke .... &quot😉. If you decide to do so, go to the mobo's site and look up your board and root around for BIOS or DOWNLOADS or similar. They'll have listings and descriptions of the various BIOS upgrades available for your board. They'll also have detailed instructions on how to do it.

Print out their instructions before you start and follow them exactly. And be sure you have identified your board and its version correctly and are downloading the correct BIOS. Note that you'll have to reset your BIOS to desired values after flashing because the flash installs only default values."

the problem is this a brand new motherboard and it can support up to 800 MHz, so 700 MHz shouldn't be a problem for this guy

Swordman, it may be brand new, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't sitting in a warehouse for a while before you got it. It may not have a BIOS that supports your particular CPU. Do what these guys suggested and update the BIOS with the old CPU, then put the new one in. I'd imagine that will take care of it.

the biggest problem now is the mobo came from shopss.com, which you guys should know pretty much dead now, so i have no idea what brand is the mobo, so it is very hard for me to find the update or even the web site of the mobo mfg.

i can't post the photo man, since i don't have the digital camera, have any other people have this problem like me? its really weird.

Look over the entire mobo, it should be printed somewhere with a mfr. name and model number. Otherwise, like KingHam said, what does it say when it boots up?
