I see they announced the Pebble Time Steel version as well. While it certainly looks better than the non-steel Time, it still doesn't look very good. Those bezels are just way too big, looks like a device from the iPad 1 era. It actually looks like like a knock off of the Apple Watch, which is already not very good looking compared to circular watches like the Moto 360.

Having said that, it's still nice that people have many options to choose from, including those not from Google or Apple.

So lets do some math. If they are running at a low margin, even 10% they already made $1.6M. But you know the numbers have to be higher than that. I'm guessing its closer to a 30% margin which would put them at around $4.8M profit. AND THE THING DOESN'T EVEN EXIST YET!

I am not a fan of Pebble watches but these guys are doing something right.

They have done a pretty good job at establishing brand loyalty I think. I was actually surprised how much I like my Pebble. I didn't back the new one however. Maybe if mine was more than two months old I might have considered it.

Somewhat off topic, the latest update for current Pebble users is quite nice. Most notifications support further actions now without third-party apps which is nice.

do you see the smartwatch taking off in the future? I don't think it's gained much traction for androids yet. Maybe when apple does it, it will catch on.

I've been sans watch for 10 years, can't really see myself going back.

I think Apple will do a better job showing people why they should want a smart watch. I don't think many of the Android watch makers have done a good job at that so far.

I was one of those people (even through several posts here) that didn't think a smart watch had any useful function at all. Since I have started wearing one I now see how useful they are and I wonder why I didn't "get it" before. Still, I have lots of people ask me about it and even I have a hard time explaining it in a way that makes them want to go out and buy one. People are going to have to try it for themselves or have friends show them how cool it is. I think they will catch on, but it might be a process that takes awhile to gain real momentum.

One of my biggest issues is all the smart watches so far are just ugly. The apple watch with the Milanese band is the only one I would want to wear. A watch is as much a piece of jewelry as it is a functional item. It has to compete with my Omega for my wrist.

I totally agree that they are not dress wear worthy but Huawei is set to change that.

Hope the rumors of it being $1000 are incorrect. Trouble with spending a ton of money on a smartwatch is they'll quickly be obsolete. Looks nice enough, though I think the apple watch has a little better attention to detail. On the metal bands for example the Huawei simply has them hook in like any other band between the lugs. The apple watch has the metal bands blend into the case more with an adapter piece. Still it does look much closer to a traditional watch than most android watches.
