Im kinda new to the forums so wasent sure where to actually post this so sorry if i have crapped up. :p

Im also new to the world of custom pc builds etc. But my family news a new PC and any help from u guys would be much appreciated.
TBH i dont mind weather it uses a AMD or Intel CPU.
The budget i think is about £ 2200 - which converts to around $3360.

I want this PC to be FAST as fast as possible without it blowing up . It needs to perform in everything graphics, speed, sound etc. as it will be used for many things from gaming to word processing to designing and maybe even recording music. It will be running on a form of XP.

Any help will be much appreciated - thanks for your time.

For $3300 you can get any system you'd ever want. Lots of good reviews for insanely fast/awesome PCs from over at Alienware. Go to their Gaming section as games take more power than word processors do.

The most expensive one I saw when I looked real quick was $3357 and is:

Unless you plan on doing extensive 3D design and rendering (especially raytracing), or applying special effects filters to 600dpi 28x22in poster sized images (while working on projects of the latter size is not uncommon for Photoshop users, applying filters to the whole of said object is quite rare), the dual processors will probably go to waste. They will be of the least help in gaming (which I guess is probably what you'll be doing most of). Instead, go for a single processor, and get a good amount of RAM (1GB would be nice), and perhaps even a (or some) 15000 RPM SCSI hard disk(s) (though if you build it yourself be prepared for a steep bit of learning curve as you encounter SCSI IDs, termination of the cable, and all sorts of other fun stuff that those SCSI gurus get to play with and that us IDE lusers don't have the fortune of). ;)

First off, do not buy from Alienware, you have quite a substantial budget, but still you don't want to waste money on their overpriced pc's. Next there is actually a decrease in performance of games with multiple processors (Anand has an article somewhere) What I would do: Go to a local mom and pop computer shop, tell them you need a high end computer, get a price quote, check several different places, compare specs vs price, and choose the one you like best, this should save you a large chunk of change, plus you don't have to learn how to build one (assuming you don't want to bother with it)
