Hello everyone.

I am new and I hope you can help me build a new PC.

So far a have bought a few items an I think it would have been a good idea if I?d consulted first before doing so.

1. my PC will generally be used for watching movies, listening to music and maybe edit 1 or 2 photos.
2. my budget is like this:

I have spent roughly US$330 for the following items:

Motherboard - ASUSM-P5B-MX/WiFi - US$105.29
Dvd Writer - LITEON DH-20A1L - US$44.58
Harddrive - Seagate Barracuda (ST3250620AS) 250GB S-ata2- - US$95.56
Chassis Gigabyte? Poseidon Chassis - US$86.52778

And am looking to buy the following items at the indicated money

Monitor - Samsung Syncmaster 226BW or LG 226WTQ or Asus VW222U US$430.56
Processor - Intel E4600 Duo Core - US$180.56
Power Supply - Aerocool Zerodba S500w - US$90.97
Ram - Kingston Value RAM Memory 2GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 DIMM - US$61.40
Keyboard/Mouse -Logitech Cordless Desktop EX 110 - US$49.58

Total US$813.0556

I also intend to add an addition DVD Writer an Asus at roughly the same amount as my Liteon drive as well as a VGA card, but not sure what, but definitely an nVidia (will welcome recommendations).

3. I am in South Africa and so will be buying my stuff here.
4. I prefer Intel, Seagate and nVidia.
5. I don?t intend to reuse any old components.
6. I have searched and researched other forumns
7. I don?t intend to overclock.

Please can you advice if this makes a good system.

Will be running Windows Vista maybe, but definitely openSuse 10.3.

smoe things i'd change:

change the cpu to an Intel 8400
change the power supply to Corsair HX520
change the ram to Corsair, OCZ, G. Skill, or Crucial
Antec p182 is probably a better performing case

For your "watching movies, listening to music and maybe edit 1 or 2 photos... don?t intend to overclock", needs check out Dell systems.
They offer a pretty good bang for the buck. You can always add a large HD later for storage if you need it.

...just a thought

BTW, Where can you get a Posiden shipped to SA for only $86.53?

BTW 2, You could use an E6600 for about the same $$ as the E4600, and not be OCing your MB.

if i put an Intel 8400 (ie E8400) that would mean overclocking. and i didn't want to overclock. my board can be overclocked to 1066Mhz and this processor is 1333Mhz

I got mine at www.digitalSAOnline.co.za for R623 and using an exchange rate of 7.2 to the US$, you should get that US$86.53.

you say you're in NA what's that? I think i'll consider the E6600 and its only a few hundred rands more (US$290) compared to US$180 for the E4600. Thanks man 🙂
