I just finished building my first PC last night, and I turned it on, installed the OS, ect...
Windows said I had 30 days left for activation. I plugged in my CAT5 cable to my modem, plugged that into the network jack on my mobo, and tried to get online. It didnt work, windows doesn't see/detect the connection. I have no idea why its doing this.

Now, this morning, when I turned it on, windows won't let me log in without activating it! What the heck!? Thats not 30 days, thats 1 day! I still can't get my mobo to detect the connection and I need to be able to get online... Can someone help me out?

I'm using an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo, with a cable modem. On my dad's computer (the one im on now) if i unplug the cable, and plug it back in, it sees it right away. Both computers are using XP.

If for some reason the Date in the BIOS was changed reset, or any other Date shift, Windows gets upset and would demand immediate Activation. ;)

In any case call Microsoft and resolved the activation over the phone (it is an 800 number and takes few minutes).

Once you activate and would provide more info about your Internet connection, someone would be able to help you with the real problem.

You might need a Router, and take care of authentication in order to use two computers with the same Internet connection.
