new pc - sexy looks but too loud - water cooling?

i recently bought this computer case: http://us.st7.yimg.com/store1....irectron_1828_10033291

for use with my new athlon 64 3500 and geforce 6600gt. however, the case is a mesh so the sound escapes and it's very loud, despite having temperature controlled case fans and power supply fan. the culprits are the cpu and video card fans. i am interested in water cooling but i'm worried that the cooling of the radiator will be just as loud (i've never made a water cooling case before).

are there kits that are very silent (temperature auto controlled fans) or even passive? what ever happened to peltiers? the case is sexy but its so loud that it's very distracting (my previous pc case was pretty loud but i was able to get sound dampening on the lining of the case - i can't with this one due to the mesh).

any and every idea is welcome!

thanks!

I've never seen a case quite like that. I looks very slick. Well yeah, depending on what sort of case fan cuts your case has, water-cooling with a DIY kit is possible. If quiet if VERY important to you this would probably be the best route if you want any degree of performance to go with that quiet. Is there a 120mm fan sowewhere in this case? How much are you thinking of spending for the project?

i'd like to keep it under $100 but i'd go higher if needed.

i replaced a fan and the noise has gone down considerably! enough so that i dont think i need to do much to it anymore.

thats a sound dampening mat.. though.. its not really a fix.. maybe.. you ought to get.. a fanless PSU or heatsink... maybe some fanless fans too.. kidding about that last one, thats such a shame though.. a purty case like that.. your options being limited to hiding it away from your ears.. or lining it with something that'd trap in heat, anyone else have any problem solving ideas?

For your budget I'd recommend trying to integrate 120mm fans into your CPU and GPU HSFs. Get a CPU HSF that supports 120mm fans. Or buy a 80mm to 120mm fan adapter. As for the GPU, slot cooler? Or jimmy rig one yourself? Then hook these fans up to the fan controller.

I dont know what kind of fans you have in that case. If you have the ability to have 120mm fans in front and back, then you can purchase some really quiet ones like the Nexus or Globe, or even enermax w/ variable resister. As for your cpu, get something like a Thermalright XP-90 or XP120 if it fits. A fan that you would probably like is the panaflo 92mm L1A BX or any of the 120mm fans I listed above. The Panaflo can be found at jab-tech.com.

For the 6600GT look at some aftermarket cooling, notably the NV Silencer from Arctic Cooling.

Good luck

Wow, is that mesh all the way to the inside of the case? No wonder it's loud. Ditch the case and get something nice from Antec. I love my SLK3700's, with two Evercool 120mm aluminum fans. I did ditch the stupid fan clips though, as they actually CREATE vibration noise; I drilled some holes too so I could mount fans like in any normal case. But the net result - very low noise levels, with air cooling.

what ever happened to peltiers

Peltiers are just heat movers anyway - they still need a heatsink on them to keep the Peltier junctions from frying themselves.

Look in to Zalman, they sell things like heat pipes and th elike. I have passive coolers on my dual rig, and it works great. On top of that, look into putting heat pipes on the GPU. Other than that, you should be good. Check out www.silentpcreview.com

If the cpu and vid card are making all the noise why not replace them?

Not sure what you could get for the video card - there isn't an arctic cooling vga silencer for the 6600 gt's, but you could replace the cpu's HSF with a zalaman 7000 alcu. I've never used one but they are suppossed to be nearly silent.

Very nice looking case on the outside, just like the macintosh G5. Unfortunately they didnt do the cooling methods Mac used such as zone cooling. They divided the inside into zones such as CPU, Power supply, IDE drives, PCI slots etc and had a contolled fan system employing variable fans. Very quiet and efficient. You can check out at www.apple.com and see if you can duplicate the system.
