Just got my new i7 build complete, and in the few days I have been getting it all setup and software installed, it's restarted on me 2 or 3 times in the middle or either installing software, surfing the web, etc..

I'm thinking it might be this old surge protector I have under the desk, but wanted to get some other ideas/opinions as well.

Specs are as follows:

MSI X58 Pro
Core i7 920
6GB Corsair XMS3
BFG GTX 260
WD Caviar Black 640GB
Corsair 650watt PSU

I plugged in an older IDE cd/dvd burner, and threw in a old maxtor 250gb sata drive for data transfer from the old pc (it was a storage drive in the old one as well)

Any Ideas?

Thanks guys!

Do your programs/browser act sluggish before it reboots? Any beeps?

Check to see if your monitor loses power (if there's a light visible on yours) when computer reboots.

I've only ran into this a couple times before....

1. CPU was overheating
2. Power Supply on the fritz and ended up frying (love the smell of burning Power Supplies).

No it doesn't act sluggish, it did it again after I left the forums last night. Just clicked a link in firefox and boom.. reboot. Monitor light stays on, and the pcu was at 32* last I checked. I'll have to check out the PSU or try a diffrent plug now I guess.

If you suspect the surge protector, then try without it.
My first suspect in a case like yours is faulty RAM or a faulty motherboard, though. Try a Memtest86 run.

You might see if anything is getting logged in the windows event viewer the correlates to the time of one of the unplanned reboots.

yup yup what is the frequency of 3x2 kit ? this mobo is totally uncompatible with much RAM types I guess. this is strongly looking like a ram problem just like mine.

The way to check is to run a couple of passes with Memtest.

MSI X58 PRO Qualified Vendor List

According to the QVL, Corsair does not have any ram that x58 pro supports in 1333mhz. especially 2x3 does not supported. anyway sometimes we can use rams that are not in the QVL without any problems but this idiot mobo causes too much ram problem for me and other users.

Check the List.
Which slots did you put the rams in ?
if it's 1-3-5 . This board is having some problems.
Main ram slots of this boards are 2-4-6 . try it.

I put the ram in the black slots as noted on the sticker that was there when I opened the board up for the first time.

Now recently I am experiencing random freezes...? Not doing anything specific to cause the lock up either.
