Hey guys

Could i ask you to review my list of components for an Intel i7 build on Win7

PLEASE when you POST threads asking for input on system builds tell us...

1. This pc will be used for gaming, browsing the net, some photoshop use, watching some movies and listening to music

2. my budget is a max of 1600 Euro or 13000 Norwegian kroner.
3. buying these components in Norway

4. No brand preferance

5. everything is new, dont have any parts from before.

6. have not searched and am more looking for corrections on obvious wrong choices like ram coupled with cpu or mobo etc..

7. Its a core i7 870, overclocking means no turbo? if so, i wont be overclocking. If not i will be slightly overclocking, say about 500mhz

8. 1920x1080

9. I plan on building this yesterday. So urgently want feedback

10. Shoot and tell me if something is out of wack, cause i can still change a few items.

None of the links work, but off the top of my head:

how much is the PSU? Could be better.
Ram could be better with a G.skill 1.5 voltage or less kit.
Wireless adaptor is USB, probably not the best for gaming.
H50 is overkill.
Monitor is TN and therefore probably not the best for photoshop.

fail linking by me. pls ignore links, if possible, for now. ill update with correct links tomorrow.

Could you suggest a wireless card for me? several buyers and users of the product say the performance is good.

I have 12mb down 2 up line at home, wireless.

I want H50 for the noise lvl

should be very little noise from this radiator+fan right?

Ofcourse you could argue the gtx460 will make more sound, but it should be an ok sound lvl i hope.

TN monitors are better for gaming? is so that is acceptable, seeing as i will do more gaming than photoshopping. If not, pls do suggest another monitor for about 2000 norwegian kroner or 250 euro

The H50 isn't any quieter than a quiet HSF. You're just moving the noise from a fan mounted on a heatsink to a fan mounted on the radiator. A Noctua or Venomous X will be just as quiet and less likely to run into a TDP wall like the H50 will.

Other comments:

  • You could easily go down to a 650TX
  • The monitor is fine for gaming
  • Wireless anything isn't that great for gaming. An internal PCI card will likely have lower latency than a USB dongle.
  • A Green drive doesn't make for a good system drive because it has low random read/write performance. A Samsung F3 or WD Black would be better.
  • Look into the P7P55D-E so that you can get USB 3.0
  • Concur with Sp12 about getting 1.5V RAM if at all possible

It probably seems like i'm echoing you a lot lately but you always seem to beat me to the punch. You are correct this time as always.

I have a wireless mouse and honestly milliseconds don't really add up to all that much time. No matter what you will probably get a neutral-kill type situation anyway if it comes to depend on a milliseconds. I personally don't like chords and wires.

You won't get better, except for a random deal on refurb or something, for under 350 euro, and maybe not even 500, with that kind of screen size. it would help if you could choose your monitor by actually looking at it, but that one looks like a nice gaming monitor.

If you need decent color accuracy in the near future, and still want to keep a budget, consider finding a cheap but good 1280x1024 monitor, and calibrate it. Tada, second monitor. Since everybody wants wide screens, these days, I've been seeing a lot of good S-IPS ones pop up, refurbished or only lightly used, over here in the US, for well south of $200 (all 5:4). I would imagine its about the same situation, over there.

I dont have G.skill ram available in the shop i buy all of this from, and i want it all in one package, and rdy to be shipped/in store.

Could you maybe give me something like that g.skill you recommend, just in crucial, corsair or kingston?

heres a link the the memory page on the site im buying the stuff from:
http://www.komplett.no/k/kl.aspx?bn=11209

Aside from USB3 support, are there any other differences between the P7P55D-E and the card ive currently picked? Anything "gamebreaking". something i really need? (aside from USB3)

Harddrive:

Could you also please advice from this page, a sata harddrive around the 1 tb capacity. http://www.komplett.no/k/kl.aspx?bn=10096

how about this one: http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=591141

SSD?

http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=605200
Corsair SSD Force Series 2,5" 40GB

or

http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=584092
Corsair SSD Nova Series 2,5" 64GB

Needs to be bootdisk for win7 home premium and for a few games/applications. Which is better?

Very much appreciate the feedback so far. Thank you:)

I may look into this at some point, but i doubt it. my monitor/screen use will be pretty easy stuff. and im no talent at photoshop or video editing, its merely something i do from time to time. Thanks for the feedback!

I couldn't find any 1.5V DDR3 1600 RAM on that site. It's a shame that you don't have the same selection as Newegg. :( Just go with what you have picked out.

USB 3.0 is the big advantage of the -E model. The Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 is another good budget choice that gets you USB 3.0 support.

As for the drive, this is what I would recommend.

XMS3 (Corsair)

HyperX Blu (Kingston)

Ballistix (Crucial)

Another thing about ram is you should probably get 4GB or 8GB if you're going with the 1156 socket or AMD. 1156 has support for dual channel (2,4,8,12,16, ect) while triple channel ram (3,6,12,16,24) is reserved for the X58 and the i7 9xx series. It would still work, it would just run slower than it could with either 4 or 8.

Read some reviews of the noctua NH-D14, and it seems like a great cooler

Changing the H50 to that.

I need a few questions answered:

Can i overclock the i7 870 without loosing the turbo functions of the CPU?

The PSU is sufficient for these components and eventually another Gainward GLH 460 1gb so i get SLI?

Ty in advance for your help.

You can overclock the CPU with turbo mode enabled, but turbo mode always increases your multiplier by a set amount, so you would need to make sure that the max turbo frequency is still stable. This is the reason that most people turn turbo off when overclocking.

A 750TX is more than enough for what you have currently. I can probably run 2 460's in SLI (basically another 150W in power consumption), but you will be cutting it a little close. 800W would be perfect.

EDIT:
One thing to be aware of about the D14 is that it is enormous. Make sure that it will fit in your case.

Kinda funny because I was watching the newegg team build the $7000 supreme combo on youtube, and the D14 wouldn't fit over their 6 DIMMs of ram so they had to downsize it lol.
