new pc options

hey everyone

just wanted your advice on what i should do in this situation

I have the Antec SLK3700BQE and so i have the 350W power supply that came with it.

The pc that i wanted to move into the case doesn't work anymore so i was just wondering if i can run the following system with that psu.

AMD64 3200+
Asus/Msi NF4 mobo
X800XL
2 HDs
2 Optical drives

i am thinking about buying the Dell 2005FPW and so i would like to run games at the native resolution. Not too bothered with great performance, just so i can run HL2 and doom 3 as i havent played them yet.

Otherwise has any got any alternate ideas that i can run the PSU with ie 754 sys? Although i would like some possible upgrades in around 6-9 months ie dual core when prices come down. Btw i live in uk and am a broke student so i would like it if i didnt have to buy another power supply 😛

Thanks very much guys

Welcome to AT.

I'm kind of confused about your title vs thread...

Are you asking "should i get a new pc sys or wait a year?" or are you asking if your current PSU would work with those proposed parts?

Very simple answer to this question, as far as I'm concerned. Is the computer you would build / buy suffice for what you want to do with it? Get what you can afford, and then go from there. If you think you might need more power than what you can afford, wait a while, keep researching, and stand by. I have had a list of upgrades for my computer for 7 years now, and it is a constantly evolving list. And I'm finally almost done with that list. I'm actuall quite proud. And my machine does exactly what I need it to do.

wow thanks for the fast reply guys

what i mean when i say wait a year is that in a years time roughly i would buy nearly all new components like new psu new ram new hdds etc.

right now i am thinking of buying those components and continuing using other old components such as hd ram psu etc.

I wanted to know if i could run that system using the psu in the case i have or whether i should keep with the sys i have now p4 1.7ghz 1gb 3200 200gb hdd geforce 4 mx and wait a bit longer before doing a full upgrade.

Tas thanks for your advice but im worried that under load the psu i have wont take it.

Thanks guys
