New PC, old Audio... what to do?

Just built a new PC with Asus p8z77-v Deluxe with the Realtek ALC898
However, my History prevents this PC from working with my current setup (as far as I can tell)

My first PC had an Original SB Platinum Soundcard, and was paired with Altec Lansing 641 Speakers. That computer is gone, but the speakers remain.
When the speaker wires didn't have an annoying RF interference coming across them (in the form of a Christian Rock station, of all things) they were Awesome speakers.

Then I got an HP Pavilion with RealTek ac 97, obviously not compatable with the Altecs
So I looked around and was disappointed in all of the PC speakers out in stores (especially under 150$)
I got my Onkyo HT SP 904 to work with the RCA Optical audio connection

Now that I no longer have the RCA audio out connection, I need to look for a better solution. I am going to try to use the S/Pdif connections because the HDMI turns out to be passthrough only.

Before I do that, is there some other (inexpensive) way to use the speakers and receivers that already have?
Or another path is to find a good Receiver that can use my PC connections, But I don't know where to start.

in my storage room,
I also have 2 12" 3-way Cerwin Vega Cabinets (not used in years) and a Pioneer 5.1 vsx-605s reciever without anything fancy(from '95).
I will find a use for this one day, maybe.

Yeah you DO have an Analog out, and that little piece should do the trick. I would personally go with the 3.5mm to 2xRCA MALES, so you don't need yet another cable though.

You need to go from the Analog out (the lime green output on the mobo) and split that mini 3.5mm jack into the RED & WHITE cables you are probably familiar with.

As long as you have the right connections, there is no way that speakers could be incompatible with a newer PC.
