Hey guys! I've done quite a bit of research into these parts but I thought I'd check it over with you all.

Is the RAM and MB ok for heavy overclocking? Any other motherboards that are cheaper for overclocking? Also if anyone has the Lancool K62 could tell me what the airflow is like for overclocking.
The choice of hardware was mainly a trying to get a balance between power and silence, and of course price.

1. What YOUR PC will be used for.
I'm doing a 3D Animation course. I'll be using it mainly as a workstation and a rendering machine, with a bit of internet and watching TV shows/movies, and a little gaming.
I'd estimate: 60% 3D animation stuff - 3ds Max, Maya, ZBrush, etc . 30% internet and other basic stuff. 10% Gaming - mainly Starcraft 2.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
£1400

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
UK

4. IF YOU have a brand preference.
Intel and nVidia

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
A DVD-RW, 20 inch 1680x1050 monitor

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
A few

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
Planning to overclock it as far as possible on air

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.
1920x1080

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
ASAP

MB: £150 Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366)

CPU: £210 - Intel i7 930

Cooler: £60 - Noctua NH-D14

Ram: £115 - Corsair CMX6GX3M3A1600C 9 3 x 2GB DDR3

GPU: £180 - MSI GTX 460 Cyclone 1GB

PSU: £90 - Antec Signature Series 650W

Case: £85 - Lancool Dragon-Lord PC-K62 - Red Dragon

HDD : £210 - OCZ Vertex 2E 120gb

HDD 2: £80 - Western Digital Caviar Green 2tb SATA-II 64mb Cache

Monitor: £220 - Dell Ultrasharp U2311H 23 inch

Total: £1400

Thanks! :D

I would not overclock a workstation under any circumstances. You can easily go for an LGA 1156 build and let the turbo handle upping the clocks.

Can you explain why not? When I look around 3D animation forums I see a lot of people with their workstations overclocked

when you overclock data can be mishandled or something, not sure about the specifics but data output can be incorrect
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclock#Stability_and_functional_correctness
"Stability and functional correctness
See also: Stress testing#hardware

As an overclocked component operates outside of the manufacturer's recommended operating conditions, it may function incorrectly, leading to system instability. Another risk is silent data corruption by undetected errors. Such failures might never be correctly diagnosed and may instead be incorrectly attributed to software bugs in applications or the operating system. Overclocked use may permanently damage components enough to cause them to misbehave (even under normal operating conditions) without becoming totally unusable.

In general, overclockers claim that testing can ensure that an overclocked system is stable and functioning correctly. Although software tools are available for testing hardware stability, it is generally impossible for any private individual to thoroughly test the functionality of a processor.[8] Achieving good fault coverage requires immense engineering effort; even with all of the resources dedicated to validation by manufacturers, faulty components and even design faults are not always detected.

A particular "stress test" can verify only the functionality of the specific instruction sequence used in combination with the data and may not detect faults in those operations. For example, an arithmetic operation may produce the correct result but incorrect flags; if the flags are not checked, the error will go undetected."

When your OC'ed system crashes near the end of a long render, you'll be wishing that you had left it stock. For a "hobbyist" this might not be a big deal, but it isn't worth the risk if there is a work or school deadline looming.
