I just got my gtx 260 in today to complete my new system and when I popped it in and tried to boot the new pc for the first time, nothing happens! lol..

My hardware is as follows..

MSI x58 Pro
Core i7 920
Corsair 6gb ram
bfg gtx 260
corsair 650 psu

Now, the power button on the msi board does light up, but really thats about it. the PSU fan doesn't spin, hdd doesn't try and boot, cpu fan doesn't come on, nothing else other than the green light on the motherboard.

Now I know the board is getting some kind of power else the light wouldn't come on. That button that lights up is supposed to be able to turn the system on/off just like the switch on my case but when i press the mobo power button, nothing happens as well, doesn't turn off or anything.. i am stumped, and would appreciate any help.

I filed a RMA with newegg for the PSU since thats what I think is the cause, but I would like others insight and maybe theres something small I am missing? Thanks!

Need to get ahold of a multimeter i guess, and I will also have to do some research, I hope it would be enough power!

lol where are you seeing these numbers and how are you calculating this? You don't need a 750W PSU. Almost no one does.

Well as you can see I am at a loss then. I guess I will wait and do the rma, if the same thing happens again then I go from there? I don't see what else it could be since the fan on the PSU itself doesn't even spin.

You should build this on cardboard, connecting only the mobo and CPU. See if your PSU fan spins when you turn it on. But, again, get a voltmeter and check your rails. You can get one for like $10-20 at Radioshack.

Sounds like a plan, I have 7 days to send the RMA anyhow. I will take your advice and go from there. You mind if I send a PM your way if I need any other help? Thanks btw..

I'm no authority on troubleshooting, but I've gone through some similar experiences. Feel free to PM me, but also don't be afraid to keep updating your thread so others can chime in.

He added the wattage from the MB specs:

*Minimum system power requirement based on a PC configured with an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 processor

To the CPU wattage from the specs here:

Glad to hear it. Yeah, it sounded like a short. I had a similar experience when my HSF's mounting backplate was shorting out my mobo.
