New PC - CPU fan does not spin on boot

Well I built my first PC this morning, and when I hit the power switch, everything started running except the CPU fan. I pushed the power button off, then the CPU fan spun for a quick second and stopped. The fan is plugged into the CPU_FAN slot. Any idea what could be wrong?

My Specs:
Core2Duo E6600 with stock cooling
Gigabyte DS3
Enermax Liberty 500W

I just tried plugging the fan into SYS_FAN instead of CPU_FAN, and it seems to work ok. Is it ok to use SYS_FAN instead of CPU_FAN?

Yes, the BIOS will probably throw a tantrum and it'll make fan speed control a bit more complicated but as long as the fan is spinning it's ok.

Edit: Try make sure you've got Qfanturned off in the BIOS, could be trying to undervolt it too far.

I've got the DS3 and an E6600 as well. When I first turned on the system, the CPU fan didn't budge and I was concerned. However, after a few minutes it started running. I haven't had any overheating problems (in fact, it runs very cool) so I assume that the fan just isn't needed for awhile.

I say put it back on the CPU Fan connector and just give it a few minutes. Run EasyTune and watch the temps to see what happens.

Make sure you turn off monitoring the CPU FAN in the bios because it might shutdown the mobo with no reading from the CPU FAN header.
