I just built a new PC and it corrupts files that I download. I have downloaded the Homeworld 2 Demo like 20,000 times. Each time it is corrupt.

In my PC is...
Pentium 4 2.8 ghz 800 mhz fsb processor
Asus P4P800 mobo
512 megs of corsair xms pc3200 ram

Those are the only componants I can think that would cause this. I use the onboard network connection. If anyone has any idea what would cause this and/or how to fix it I would be very greatful.

Thanks

If you're behind a router, you might want to flash to a different firmware. I know the newest linksys firmware 1.45.6 was causing corrupt file transfers.

3COM Gigabit Lan PCI Controller supporting 10/100/1000 BASE-T Ethernet

It is integrated onto the motherboard. The motherboard is a Asus P4P800 Deluxe.

I downloaded this,
3com Gigabit LOM (3C940) WHQL Driver V1.00.00.0044
driver off of the Asus website.

If you are using a software firewall try and turn that off. Whenever I download Tropico patches I have to disable Norton to avoid getting corrupted files.

If you have a NIC laying around, try and throw that into the machine in order to find out if it's 'only' the onboard nic giving trouble or something else.

And you really should get a firewall or a router, or preferrably both.

I dont think i have a virus. I have norton antivirus 2003 professional. It is updated all the way and doesn't show any. It happens with other large files. It doesn't happen with smaller ones.

Could it be possible that it is the Harddrive? This morning I booted my machine and it took forever. Also, it seems to take a while to read things off the harddrive.

Yes, it could be the hardrive. Run a scan disk and see if there are any corrupted sectors. It also cold be the RAM and writing corrupted files into the drive.

Chiefcastor go here and try some of these patches. Sounds to me like you may need to do some tweaking to your TCP/IP settings. It's worth a try.

I used to have this problem with corrupted downloaded files. It turns out I was overclocking my system too much. If you're overclocking your system, that might be your problem.

I am not behind a router. I connect to a switch that connects to a cable modem.
You are behind a router. What do you think your switch is? If your switch wasn't also a router, the only device able to connect to the internet would be your switch and not any computers connected to the switch.

Well, I ran scan disk and it didnt finish... it got to stage for and just stayed at 0 percent for an hour. Then, I restarted my machine and it told me the harddrive was bad and to replace it. And told me to hit F1 to continue and it actually started but I must say I think it is the harddrive that is bad.
