Hi folks,

I am trying to build a new machine for mostly gaming and various other word processing/spreadsheet activities. This is my first build and I just wanted some opinions on the prospective equipment.

I'm just looking for any comments on what items might be better or if all is alright. I think I might actually wait until the nforce4 boards come out. Will it be worth it? I will also be purchasing a copy of windows xp professional edition as well. Any comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Swap the PNY for another brand like eVGA (free FarCry or D3) or BFG (lifetime warranty, pre-OCed). Do another brand swap with the HD--Maxtors have notoriety here for failure, while Seagates are regarded as quiet but great performers (and have a 5-year warranty to boot). Buy your HD with just OEM packaging too. Maybe try and find a 90nm 3500+ for the OC ability if you want.

Bleh...

I meant a 9800 pro for the video card.

My question was would it be worth waiting on the nforce4 and the 6800gt?

Sorry for the mixup.

Depends. I know the real big thing about NF4 right now is PCI Express and SLI--that's about it. You can stick with the NF3/6800GT and probably be just as well. (Depending on how much you game or what you expect, you may want to get that now. A 9800 Pro might not be the best investment for $200 with the 6600GT AGP on the horizon to fill that price point with better performance than the 9800XT and SM3 support.)

Get rid of the Maxtor drive, they're works of the devil. WD has served me well for 5 years now. Not a single bad drive. Maxtor on other hand.....

Other than that it looks good.

Ok,

HD and video updated. Does anyone know where to get a 90nm 3500+ or when the nforce4 boards will be available to the public?

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Any others are welcome.

Also, my box is sitting in an enclosed bay. I usually have the door open while I am on it because this one heats up very quickly. Is this something else I should take into account?
