My current system died, i need help building a new system. I my current that died was an amd athlonx3 450rana on a asus m4a79xtd evo mobo paired with a 2 x 2gb g. Skill 1600 ram. My budget is to stay under 400, i already have a samsung 22" monitor, seasonic x750 80plus gold psu, and a coolmaster haf-922 case with plently of fans, a coolmaster hyper212+ cpu cooler, and a creative labs x-fi gamer pcie sound card, and an asus 6870 gpu that is still good and reuse for new build. I mainly need a mobo, cpu, ram, and a hdd, i perfer a ssd. I am mainly using this computer for diablo3 and web browsing. Thanks for any advice.

How much drive space do you need to buy (128GB, 500GB, 1TB?) and can you not reuse drives from your current PC?

You could increase your budget by selling the X-750 on ebay and buying Seasonic M12II 520W for $60

You wont be able to afford unlocked unless you buy used or go to microcenter.

But it is enough of a budget to buy an i5 35xx, 8GB RAM, and at least a 128GB SSD.

SSD :

http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?...T128M4SSD&c=CJ

Appy coupon TRIBUTE to the cart and the price drops to $109.99

CPU, i5-3550

http://www.superbiiz.com/desc.php?name=I5-3550BOX

Total is $309, leaving you with $40 to spend on 8GB of RAM and $50 to spend on a motherboard.. That is cutting it close for sure lol but I'm sure one can be found with rebate / shell shocker deal /etc. It doesnt need to overclock so its not like it needs to be a premium board.

imo 3.7 turbo with the ability to go slightly higher (4 bins?) is enough, there really is no need for K version of ib.

I want to keep the my x750 just in case i go x fire or sli in the future. My 1tb seagate 7200rpm 32mb cache hdd is actuall re usable. So i dont need a hdd right now, ill just get a ssd later in a few months. So i guess i just need a mobo, cpu, and ram. Also had another question, should i use the creative labs sound card or just go with the on board sound?

D3 and web browsing dont take much cpu or ram. An i3 with a motherboard that has all the features you want will work great. Can you reuse the ram?

Oh if you're next to an MC that makes this much easier:
i5 3570k: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0388577
Biostar TZ77A: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0387326
If that's out of stock,
ASRock Z77 Pro3: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0387627

Pick up whatever the cheapest RAM set of 8 GB is (should be between $30-40) and you have all the core components for ~$300. Then if you squeeze just a little bit more into your budget, you could get a ~120 GB SSD and use your 1 TB drive as extra storage.

would the asrock z77 extreme 4 or asus z77-v lx be a better choice to go with then the biostar or pro3? I never owned a bio star and not sure how good their motherboards are. I see u own a biostar z77, how long have u owned it and how is it holding up? Any regrets?

I've got a few Biostar boards in the systems in my house atm, the original BIOS for this board gave me issues when I was trying to overclock but after a BIOS update it's perfectly fine for me now. I've had it running for a little under 2 weeks I believe, they used to have a bad name due to a long line of bad boards but their recent offerings are decent as far as I'm concerned and they're usually quite affordable too.

And the Extreme4 has a few more features than the Pro3, you should look at the amount of ports, etc. that are on both and see if the Pro3 has everything you need. If the Pro3 does have it all, there's no real reason to get the Extreme4 as both boards will serve you well.

i just put it all together and it booted up and went to bios fine and i could also go through the menus fine, but the second the window logo appeared it would bluescreen and reboot over and over until i turn it off. I fallowed the instructions and i am sure i installed everything correctly, a friend of mine is told me that it is doing this becuase the system oringally had a AMD processor and mobo, and since i switched it to Intel that the system doesn't recongize the new hardware. He told me that the problem is becuase i need to reload a fresh copy of windows with the new hardware installed. I wanted to get a second opinion. could this be the issue? or did microcenter sell me bad hardware out of the box?

edit: oh you bought all your stuff already, oh well.

Had you sold the X750 for ~$120, bought M12II 520W for $60, and settled for Asrock Z77 Pro3 ($60) you couldve bought Crucial M4 128GB right away and still stayed well below $400

I would reinstall the OS. Sometimes it's not necessary, sometimes it is...

More than likely its the OS install, it probably still had drivers and the key licensed to your old board and with such a massive hardware change I doubt you could get it to work again, hopefully you don't need the data on the old drive.

If you do there are a few things you could do:
1. Stick the old drive in an enclosure, hook it up to another system and back up the files you need.
2. Re-assemble old stuff in different casing and just back up the files that way

If you switch the SATA controller to IDE mode, you might get it to boot, but you really should be using AHCI these days. Since you didn't have anything on the machine really, you are looking at at most 30 minutes to reinstall Windows.
