New PC build help..

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

75%gaming/25% internet browsing

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

$600-$800.00

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

USA

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.

Whatever that will get the job done!

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

Only item I will be using is my Samsung T260HDTV monitor. I do have a brand new western digital hd.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

I have searched and read other threads. Hoping to get more feedback.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

I plan to run default in the beginning and overclock once I get more familiar

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.

Whatever my build will handle..

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?

ASAP.

not sure where to start..

I am still currently using a P4 machine I built like 6-7yrs ago. Its still working great. I might just use it as a web browser. Just runs slow for games. Scrolls a bit slow in the web browser but gets the job done.

Playing games on this comp is a struggle. I have played COD modern warfare on it with all the settings on super low but its a struggle also. lol.. Pretty much any and all games I had to play on super low setting. Same goes with World of Warcraft.

Well now its time to upgrade to a better rig. I am hoping to get pointed in the right direction to start off. It'll mainly be gaming and a bit of browsing for the wife.

Thanks!😀

So far..

In general the best bet is to choose:
1. i3
2. P55 / H55
3. 4Gb RAM
4. Radeon 5770 / 9800GT / GTX260
5. 500Gb hard drive
6. 500W PSU

You should be great for gaming with this components and low cost...

Here's a baseline

i3/MB combo - $200 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.369683
4gb DDR3 - $110 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231277
Nice Case - $60 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119137
PSU - $70 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371031
Insert DVD drive here - $25
5770 - $160 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150462

$625 plus maybe $20 for shipping. You're at the lower end of your budget and have a real nice computer that will play games quite well

but since you could go up to $800, here's some stuff you could switch to upgrade if you feel the need

5850 - +$160
8gb ram - +$110
i5 750 - +$95

I'd say go with AMD here. Do you already have your OS? If you're feeling lucky you can try for an unlock on the P2X2's or just go with the 955BE.

955BE $160 + Antec 300 $55 + Antec EW 500 $65 + 5770 $160 + ASUS Evo 790x $110 + G.Skill Ripjaw $110. Puts you around $660 after rebates before tax. You can probably bump up to the 5850 if you want for an extra $150, but the 5770 handles most games @1080 just fine.

Of course you can opt for the i5 (I wouldn't do i3), but you get better $/performance with the AMD. Doesn't sound like you really need the speed anyways. AM3 also leaves open the option of Thuban whereas Intel's current sockets are getting ditched. Not sure if this will be relevant in your case, but I'm just pointing it out.

Thanks for the feedback!

So here is what I went with browsing through the forum and looking at others builds in the similar range..

I went with AMD. Ordered case and cpu on amazon and saved on tax and shipping so it came out a bit cheaper.

let me know how it looks so far..

Thanks!!

Currently have the win7 cd to install into new machine.

lol now that I look at the specs of what you wrote, after I replied its the same almost to what i ordered..

Win 😀. You will enjoy it. Blazing fast. AT has a really, really good article on overclocking the 955BE. Be wary though, it is not an easy chip to toy with. Last one I tested, I got it to 3.6 on stock volts, 3.8 around 1.47v (I think) before a blown capacitor stopped my testing. They were 30min OCCT stable though. AMD Overdrive makes it ridiculously easy too.

Awesome! Thanks, I'll most likely try out few of the newer games I have and go from there. (COD MW, SC2) Once I get more familiar with OC'ing, I'll try it out then.

LOL.. looks like my order from newegg will be here tomorrow.. I wish I was able to pick up from them, I only live like 15mins from them.. On the other hand, amazon wont ship till next monday.. I guess I have to wait a bit more.. so works out..
