Folks:

I am trying(!) to build new system. I have Antec Sanota case with Itel 915 MOBO wit P4 HT CPU. 2GB RAM and PCI-E card. I did not connect any other I/O yet. My system starts and shut down in few seconds and It looks like from temparature, because next time when I power up it gives me warning "CPU turn off because heat event, press F4 to continue..."

One thing, I am not using any TIM (Thermal Interface material), because there is no CPU heat sink, there is fan sitting on top of CPU.

Any suggestion.

Thanks,

Shreeit

I couldn't possibly have read that right. Would you care to explain in greater detail your CPU cooling apparatus?

hmmm...WHY NOT??!

just a FAN in a system like THAT??? you NEED to have a HEATSINK/FAN man!!! at LEAST stock. what are u thinking just having a fan there? dont you think thats y?

whoa....man u scared me. u can't do that u'll FRY THE CPU.

please, for your own money, get a heatsink. its about $10 for a stock one with a fan along with it.

Somthing like this one

http://www.mechbgon.com/build/P4retail_2.jpg. I just used that without any TIM.

dude!!!! u gotta have thermal paste between the cpu and heatsink, just pick up some artice silver or anything for a couple bucks and save yourself from a fried chip

If the heatsink has a thermal pad, then you are ok to use the stock thermal pad, but if you have no TIM at all, that's not gonna work. You could be a little more specific about your componets as well..3.4-3.8ghz P4's tend to run a good bit warmer than their lower speed counterparts, the 5xx series worse than the 6xx series. The stock Intel heatsink isn't always adiquate to prevent throttling, but shouldn't get to shutdown temps if mounted correctly. You definatly need to be sure the heatsink is mounted properly. And if you do remove the heatsink, you will need to clean off the old thermal pad and apply a new thin coat of TIM.
