New PC Advise Wanted!!!

Recently,one of my PC has damaged so I am planning to get a new one for the use of nearly one year because I am looking into getting Nehalem after mainstream Nehalem is released. The PC is mainly use for doing 3d animation and modelling. Therefore, should I get an AMD based or Intel based system? Also, should I get DDR3 memory? Did video card helps in 3d modelling? What video card do you recommends?

Besides that, right now I have a huge collection database on 3d stuffs in my harddisk. Do I need to get a new extra harddisk to do the backup?

Answer the sticky.

If you want something to just hold off until next year, get a cheapo Dell for now. Intel is changing the socket for Nehalem so the upgrade path is blocked for today's motherboards.

Well, I am not going to throw the PC away after I get Nehalem. I am going to use it as my second PC; for example use to do the rendering.
