New party of NO

Who are the obstructionists now? For nearly five years, Democrats in Congress denounced the GOP as "the party of no" for routinely using the Senate's filibuster rule to block legislation and presidential nominations from passing with a simple majority vote. On Tuesday, it was the Democrats' turn to stand in the way.

For 6 years, all we heard was that the Republicans are bad and they should let the Democrats have their way because they were the majority.

Now, again, the Dems do not want to put Obama in a political compromise position.

Previously Reid would protect Obama and stop the Republicans.
Now it is the Democrat minority stopping the republican controlled Senate.

Same problem; different coat; same type of snakes inside.

Maybe we should eliminate the filibuster then.

Uh, no.

For 6 years, we've heard about "Gridlock", and how "BothSides™" are refusing to compromise and work together to get things done.

Now that it's the Democrat™ party that is in the minority, we're going to hear about how the Democrats are obstructing all of the big things Republicans are going to do, like cutting taxes, or repealing the ACA for the 56th time.

Because of the "LibrulMedia™"

Yep.

The abrupt 180 on appreciation over what election results mean regarding agenda support was flat out hilarious I thought. People who have wasted disgusting amounts of time and money in those 50plus repeal attempts (and other stunts) are suddenly, flip of the switch suddenly, allll about respecting the results of votes and how it represents the will of the people.

It does appear the GOP's M.O of 'feel free to do things my way' backed by breaking the function of government via de-funding is still very much en vogue. I guess they're consistent with something.

Dems have less than 2 years to catch up to the GOP in the obstruction game.

C'mon Reid! Still time for you guys to develop your own kind of Ted Cruz infection, set a new filibuster record, or maybe even crash the government over wildly absurd priorities! People out there need to maintain the 'both parties are the same' worldview, so you better double time it!

Or, the other option, people like you need to finally accept it takes 60 votes to pass anything regardless of who's in control.

At the rate which people attain 60 votes... our government will remain dysfunctional for a long time.

I think the purpose of the President in this matter IS to use the veto... to become a focal lighting rod for the will of the people during the next Presidential election.
The fillibuster cuts down that function of a national public figure taking stances and facing the voters.

I was so pissed when they passed the whole 60 thing to begin with.

I find it totally shocking that the Democrats don't want to dismantle years of legislative and executive achievements in return for absolutely nothing. Even from a position of strength the GOP is unable to make actual compromises that might advance parts of their agenda because they would do the same for the Democrats. Zero sum game politics is working out so well.

Funny, literally zero of our conservatives and independents are stepping in to back up the OP. Guess the false equivalency is just a bit too strong this time.

<shrug> I don't consider requiring a supermajority a terrible thing regardless who's in charge. I want the stupidest ideas from both sides to never make it out of Congress to the President, and 80% of the bills that the partisans of both sides would fast-track if they only needed a simple majority are stupid ideas.

GOP is still the party blocking Obama's middle class agenda.

Obama's agenda has been to shaft the middle class.

Ignore the upper class - he knows that they are the ones that provide his support and the Republicans will not allow abusive attacks on that group.

Obama refuses to go after Wall Street and Money people that skirted the law.

His policies are intended to support (not boot strap) the low income class.

Middle class workers get the shaft.

This guy thinks you are uninformed.

How many bigshots/firms from the bailout fiasco have been fined/gone to jail for manipulations.

Same with the housing bubble/fraud.

How many Wall Street peeps walked into the administration?

The government was being embarrassed by S&P (justified) and both sides came to an understanding.

S&P does not make the money; they report it.

I've said it for a while now. Both parties just want to get elected to stay in power, they don't care about compromise or effective governing. It is all about trying to hamper the other side so that party looks bad so next election they can pick up more seats.

So they filibustered a bill that they knew had no chance of going through and also will waste precious time before the Homeland Security department's funding expires....so they threw it back at the republicans to come up with something better that has more chance to pass....

I see nothing wrong with that.
