One thing is certain...even being in the upper 3% of the US income for household incomes...I feel like an absolute fucking simpleton when it comes to finances. The gap between the upper 3% and the 1% and above is insane in how they play shell games with their finances.

We can talk class wars ask we want, but the handful of people on these documents are fleecing all of the rest of us.

The 44-page training slideshow, which featured images from the HBO mafia drama “The Sopranos,” recalled lowlights of Appleby’s recent history. Under a slide titled “Terrorist Financing Offences,” the notes read: “We have a current case where we are sitting on about 400K that is definitely tainted and it is not easy to deal with.”

In another case, Woods’ notes indicated, Appleby set up a trust for a client to buy property in London and accepted money on his behalf “without question.” Appleby later learned, the presentation acknowledged, that the trust was owned by a former Pakistani official who had been charged with embezzling public money and had “infiltrated allegedly corrupt funds into our business.”

“Some of the crap we accept is amazing totally amazing,” the presentation’s notes said beneath a slide listing the information Appleby employees needed to know about its clients.

Appleby's response:

Blah blah blah
...
Appleby has thoroughly and vigorously investigated the allegations and we are satisfied that there is no evidence of any wrongdoing, either on the part of ourselves or our clients.

We refute any allegations that may suggest otherwise and we would be happy to cooperate fully with any legitimate and authorised investigation of the allegations by the appropriate and relevant authorities.

We are an offshore law firm that advises clients on legitimate and lawful ways to conduct their business. We do not tolerate illegal behaviour. It is true that we are not infallible. Where we find that mistakes have happened, we act quickly to put things right and we make the necessary notifications to the relevant authorities.
...
Blah blah etc

the "two percenters" and "three percenters" have a lot more in common with the "80 percenters" than they do with the "0.01 percenters."

It's literally a very small number of extremely high net worth individuals who disproportionately control more resources than most countries.

What a piss poor job of disseminating these files. Panama and Paradise etc..
there will be more and more leaks for sure.
I'd like to see simple huge text file extracts containing all the emails and documents.
Then the world can search and see. Rather than the drips and drabs of info we get now. Boo leakers boo.
