Need to replace my LG Dare. Its beat up and won't hold a charge. I test and talk on it, very little data. I want something that is easy to text with and is fairly durable. Don't want to spend a ton of $, Maybe $150 on the high end. Any suggestions on what and where to buy it?

Not durable but well good phone talk/text.
Most decent android phones have LTE and will not simply activate without some tricks.

If you want android for $100 you can get a droid 3 or droid x2 or something else

Not really sure what is best from those as they all seem the same to me and I don't pay attention to verizon phones.

The Moto X2 or HTC Incredible 2 are great choices and are around $100-125 or so in most places...
