New P4A System-How are my temps?

My new system:

Lian Li PC65 case (stock)
P4 1.8a w/ Retail HSF
Asus P4T-E
(2) 256Mb Kingston RDRAM
GeForce 2 GTS 64MB
Enermax 350W PSU

Nothing is overclocked. According to MBM5 my CPU temp at idle is 48C and Motherboard is 28C. When I play games the CPU temp goes up to 54C. Is my Northwood running too hot?

Well, a 20 degree celsius difference between mobo temp and cpu at idle is pretty extreme. The difference between mine at idle is about 7 and about 16 at full load. Are you sure that the heatsink is attached well?

Yes, your temps do seem quite high. Granted, I have a 1.6A, not overclocked, and at load my temps never exceed 40C. I am moving my system to my Lian Li PC65 case so I can sell my current case, Antec SX1240, which is a loud wind tunnel with all of the fan spots full. 🙂

Once upon a time, I had a 1.7GHz P4 (not Northwood) in a Fong Kai 320 case with a 120mm Panaflo in the front with a T&T 92mm exhaust. Those temps never breached the 50C mark at full load.

I'd check your HSF installation.

Good luck and nice rig, too! 😀

Seems high to me. My P4 2.2 (not overclocked) with an AVC Sunflower doesn't go above 32C under full load. Sounds like you definitely have a problem with the hsf.
