new p4 system keeps freezing/resetting --need help

hello everyone,

i just built a p4 system 2days ago and unforunately im having some problems already. this is my first attempt at a p4 system, and im pretty confident that i installed everything correctly (i've built many p3's in the past).

here is the problem,
winxp bootup is fine, and everything runs smooth.. then the computer occasionally resets by itself, powerdowns by itself, and freezes.(this happens after 10min,20min,30min--randomly,playing wc3, or idle). i'm not sure what to suspect, it could very likely be a hardware-related issue because i don't have anything installed other than windows xp pro, office xp pro and warcraft iii.

here are my hardware specs, (everything is new)
p4 1.8A cpu
Asus p4s333 mobo
256mb ddr pc2100 -- not sure what brand
pandex gf2 mx400 64mb vidcard (because i have no money 😀 )
seagate barracuda 40gig 7200rpm hdd
p4 atx case, 300w psu

-- any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated, thanks alot!

i hope i've given enough detail, if not please let me know 🙂

the biggest thing that jumps out at me about your system is two things:

1. what brand of ram? what is the markings on the chips on the ram? as generic ddr ram can cause all kinds of problems, you want to use only quality ram.

2. what brand of power supply? you say 300watt, but if it's a generic PS then you need to seriously consider something better like an AGI, Enermax, Antec, etc..

Other than that everything else looks good, so try to find out more for these 2 and post them here 🙂
