Hi. I have a question. I am thinking of building a system with the new Intel P4 Prescott chip sometime soon. I am only a beginner. To build a P4 Prescott system, do you need a new type of motherboard, or do you still use regular P4 motherboards? Does it plug in the same way as a regular P4 chip?

A regular LATE MODEL P4 motherboard, and a GIGANTIC HSF ! Those things can melt the chrome off a trailer hitch.

I do not quite understand the above post.

So are there special motherboards that one has to use in order to make use of a P4 Prescott chip or does one just use a regular P4 motherboard?

Not all S478 motherboards support Prescott. You need to visit the mfg's website first.

First question is WHY prescott?

What Mark mean't to say was the Prescott runs very hot. Not only that, it gives no performance above Northwood.

Yeah, if your goona go with the P4 get a northwood, they run slightly cooler and they perform just as well if not better in some stuff. Presscot isnt a HUGE leap over Northwood and northwoods are pretty easy to overclock too.

You can always go AMD my freind, a A64 3000+ would be more then enough for all your needs and cost about the same or less as a 3.2C or 3.2E

Whats your system going to be used for ?
