Hey guys,

What do you think of this system...

(all prices Canadian)

Pentium 4 1.8A GHz 478-pin Retail $349
512MB PC-800 RAMBUS $272 (I think its Samsung)
ABIT TH7-II Intel 850 $244 (Can I run a 533MHz FSB Northwood and PC1066 on this when they come out?)
40 GB Maxtor Diamond Max Plus Ultra-133 7200RPM 2048k 8.5ms OEM $154.99
ATI Radeon 7500 64MB DDR Retail $223
Lian-Li PC-60 Aluminum Case $208 (Not sure if it comes with a PS)
Pioneer 16X Tray Load OEM $105
Teac 24x10x40 w/ BURN-Proof OEM $145
Creative Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 OEM $51

and mabye

Samsung SyncMaster? NaturalFlat 900NF $539 (any good??)

all from Canada Computers

Grand Total + Tax = $2634.65(Ouch!)
(BTW, this is with the monitor)

Currently I have a Slot A Athlon 700MHz, Abit KA7, 512MB Crucial, Geforce DDR, 30GIG Maxtor, SB Live value, etc...

Is this a good upgrade? Thoughts, suggestions...

You can run 533 FSB and 1066 RDRAM now on that mainboard. I would suggest more decent sound card than the SB Live!. It has [imo] terrible sound quality.

Thanks for the replys...

<< Maybe go for a Raedon 8500 or a Geforce 3/4 (not MX) ? >>

Im not much of a gamer so I dont know if I need a Geforce 3/4, Radeon 8500 but I do play some sports games(EA FIFA Series, NBA Live; probably WarCraft 3 when it comes out) so im hoping the Radeon 7500 will hold up. If not then... we'll see

What would you suggest?

Thanks, I know Lite-on is a good CDRW brand but I've been reading this board for a while and I've read the problems that people have been having with the 24x(mabye they fixed them with the 32x) so I thought I'd stay away from them.

BTW, What do you guy's think of the monitor, is it any good?? Currently I have a KDS 17" Avitron.

i would try to go for a 8500 really the warcraft beta is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEE

i luv my radeon 8500 and more than likely my next card will be ATI

GF4 does not really excite me but GF5 does :) (3dfx tech)

i would also drop the lian li in favor of an Antec 1040B (comes with a very nice PSU) cuz I am not a fan of the looks of lian-li's but that is just me; the only aluminum cases i like are the coolermaster ATC

but if you get an antec then you will be able to up the soundcard to an audigy/ Santa Cruz and the difference is huge

Ok...WOW!!!

I know this is canada you are in, but that retail 1.8a is like 68 percent more then I paid for it....Isnt exchange rate like 1 dollar is 70 cents canadian and thus should be like 297???? I think you are getting jacked...

Heck, see if someone will buy one in the states for you and send it to you...

Also that radeon looks to high even at retail level....

My opinions are as follows:

- That case at that price surely doesn't come with a PS..
- I'd go with a hard drive that is 60Gb minimum, the difference in price is next to nothing..
- Not a big fan of ATI, so I won't comment on that..
- Get at least an Audigy OEM at this point, they are like $40 more..
- That monitor is very good for the price..

If you are stuck for money, rid yourself of the PS-less Lian-Li PC case and get an Antec SX 830 that comes with one.. That'll save you about 80$ which you can spend elsewhere..

For $95 less I'd get the 1.6A.
HD bigger if you need space otherwise that's fine - make sure it's the DX-740 series.
No PS with that case.
Upgrade the sc to Audigy or similar.
The 900NF is popular around here, and I like mine about 16 months now, I paid over $700 back then.
What's the shipping cost on that? Can you get a similar price locally, and avoid UPS?

"ABIT TH7-II Intel 850 $244 (Can I run a 533MHz FSB Northwood and PC1066 on this when they come out?)"
I'd also like opinions on this question.
