New Orleans

I went once before on a Spring Break trip and don't remember much. This time around I plan to do some drinking but also plan to be more of a tourist during the day as opposed to spending all day in full recovery mode.

So, do any of the natives, or anyone for that matter, have any suggestions on things I might want to check out? Specific tours or locations?

Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter. Its obligatory you get a cup of cafe au lait and a serving of beignets. Watch out for the crackies.

Yah, I guess that was slightly misleading. I'm not in school anymore so this isn't a Spring Break trip. It's actually the next best thing... bachelor party! March 30-April 2.

Go to Rick's Cabaret! They have hot classy girls dancing there. Well........
about as classy as a stripper can be.

Have fun, but seriously watch out. New Orleans is not a nice town, so don't wander drunk into the projects or you might not come back. Don't do any random exploring. My aunt used to work in Chalmette (part of New Orleans) several years ago and on her way to Slidell one day at about noon she saw a headless body burning in the median. I don't want to ruin your fun but stick to the tourist sections, if you're drinking especially.

You should stay sober so you can take advantage of all the drunk chicks with their beads. Ohterwise you won't remember all the Good Times you can have.

go to Coop's Place in the Quarter, grab some fried gator and rabbit jambalaya. very tasty. check out F&Ms . It's a requirement to dance on the pool table there, but don't bother showing up until after 1 or 2am..it's dead before then. Camelia Grill is 24/7, good place for breakfast after late-nite partying.

try experiencing the french quarter during the daytime. it is a totally different experience. its like its not even the same city when you venture out at nite.

March 30 - April 2.

BTW, in reference to the flaming headless body (dunno if that was a metaphor 😛), I've been down there once before and know full well that walking around aimlessly down dark alleys and such isn't the brightest idea. New Orleans seems like the kind of town where I don't want to hook up with any of the chicks either since I'll probably end up awakening in an alley naked with stitches holding me together and a piece of paper in hand that reads, 'I hope you didn't need that kidney'.

Well, you're a month off for JazzFest, unfortunately. And a week too early for French Quarter Festival.

However, the Crawfish Fest is that weekend in...Chalmette *cue scary music* 😛

There are lots of good suggestions so far, I'd also check out some of the places in the Marigny. You'll avoid the real heavily tourist places. Check out some shows at Dragon's Den, DBA is a very cool bar if you like beer (huge selection).

Unfortunately, I've been out of NO for over 2 years now, so I'm a bit rusty with helping out tourists. Since you have been before, did you have any pre-existing ideas of what you wanted to do (besides get plastered)?

Not really. I'd actually just like to take a day away from the booze and explore the history of the city. I was told there are some nifty city tours via bus/trolley and I thought I might take one of those. I also heard about some of the haunted tours. A lot of the guys going on the trip are NO vets (they try to go there once a year) but I think there knowledge is still somewhat limited to all that Bourbon St. has to offer.

I guess I'm more looking for ideas on things to do during the day that don't involve beer. I'm sure I'll have no problem finding beer when I want it.
