New Orleans PD

In two weeks two of my friends are going to New Orleans to apply for the police department. They want me to apply as well. We have very little law enforcement experience and we are all from a very small area. What is your opinion on the New Orleans police department and the job in general. Is it worth the $$$?

They're pretty fucking corrupt.

Back in 2005 supposedly 200 Officers didn't show up for work after the hurricaine, as it turns out those 200 people didn't exist anywhere but on paper and other Officers were collecting their checks!

Find somewhere else to work!

Find somewhere else? Sounds to me like it'd be easy to get double salary... Go for it!

I used to live not far from New Orleans. Driven through the bowels of it in the wee hours of the morning. You do not want to work in a city that has a "60-day rule."

BTW, are you and your friends former accountants by any chance?

$35,297. Including Uniform Allowance. $43,0700. Including Monthly State Pay after probation. 60-day rule? and no at accountants, lol. Two of us former correctional officers.

from time to time the FBI shows up and takes over the PD due to corruption. Ends up firing most of the cops. Starts all over again. Ground Hog Day for ever in New Orleans. Good Luck. If you get shot at, more then likely it will be a fired cop shooting at you for taking his job.

The only people that they attract are control freaks with something to prove due to such poor pay rate.

Nawlins? No fucking thanks.

A person would have to be pretty fucking desperate to take a job as a NO cop...

It's a dangerous job if you're assigned night shift patrol. Do some google-fu.

Being a cop pretty much anywhere is a dangerous job day or night. Your a walking target for every thug with a chip on there shoulder. They don't issue you a bullet resistant vest and a gun for nothing.

True enough, though I think I'd rate N.O. up there with the nastier parts of Chicago, L.A., and NYC metro areas for just being generally dangerous.
