The mayor is right, the city/state just doesn't have the resources to deal with such a disaster, the federal government needs to respond faster. Bush really dropped the ball on this one (what else is new) :|

What else is new, certainly not you trying to find any reason to bash bush.

his corrupt police department dropped the ball on this one. his state, his city failed miserably.

i guess it is easy for him to point fingers

although Bush hasn't done too well either, and thats putting it lightly

How they didnt think being in a city that was UNDER sea level with the biggest storm in years was a bad thing?
I don't understand why people keep saying this. Do people not understand the history of the city or the importance of it? Perhaps thats why NO is only 500k population instead of millions?

That being said, thats very hypocritical for people to say things like that especially when there's a huge fault line running through San Francisco area and any minute now you could have a massive earthquake killing millions of people. Sure the percantage is small, but it could happen. Why don't you call them ignorant for not moving away to a safe place like Idaho and grow potatoes?

/not directed at waggy specifically

actually thats diffrent.

While in Il we have a huge fault line. but we have not had a deadly earth quake for as long as i can remember.

BUT every year down there you guys have hurricans at least 3 a year.

National Guards are run by the various states.

Congress has to authorize all federal expenditures. They just came back from vacation today and finally passed the emergency funds bill that has been ready for several days.

true but levees don't break every year.

--thus my point, saying people need to bear the responsibility for not leaving is not fair because none of this would've happened had the levees not break. Now, people not evacuating out of say, Biloxi, should bear responsibility. But NOLA? That's a totally different story.

Before the New Orleans Mayor goes around pointing fingers, he needs to explain this - Link

That is over 200 New Orleans owned buses that were sitting around doing nothing prior to the hurricane. These could have been used to evacuate those that we keep hearing had no means of leaving. Instead, they no sit flooded and useless.

wow thats pretty damn ignorant. So I guess the solution would have been to load up 100000+ people on to buses and drive them off to neverland? Where do you expect the Mayor to singlehandedly drive them to? Baton Rouge? No city can accomodate that many people in 1-2 days notice. Whos is going to provide food, water and shelter to all those people? You? Is it the Mayor's fault that the Superdome failed? Because those people should've been on buses? The ignorance is strong.

I guess I need to quote myself.

edit: - I also like to add, shoule the mayor have predicted the levees breaking? Remember, the city would not have flooded (to that extent) had the levees not break.

No, instead lets cram them into the largest building in the middle of the flood zone, without plumbing, food or water. Smart.

Sticking ppl in the Superdome was the best thing they could have done given the information they had at that time. There was probably what a 10% chance of things turning out the way they did. Do you truck 1 million+ people off on a 10% chance of this being more than a "normal" hurricane?

In retrospect of coruse that would have been the best course of action, but realistically you can't do that for every single hurricane or south Florida would be evacuated entirely 3 times a year!

Is this the interview when he says "man" every sentence and "lickety spl... quick".
He sounds like a real winner :roll::roll:

How the hell did he get elected into office? He sounds like he didn't pass 3rd grade English.

Says quite a bit about the average intelligence of registered voters there, doesn't it.

But what about when a mandatory evacuation is ordered? At that point, that is much more than 10%.

From what I understand the federal government had to call the the LA Governor and ask her to tell the Mayor of New Orleans to institute a mandatory evacuation.
