Actually, you don't have to dl their software. One of the options is to launch a java applet that does a similar function.

Their redundant authentication is a bit goofy though. You first have to log into your account, then launch the applet, then log into the applet.

But it does work really well. Their disposable #'s also have a benefit which discover's don't (or amex's)

You can set when you want the # to expire (in terms of which month),
but more importantly, you can set a fixed dollar ammount that the # is good for. Any charge over this and its declined.

Pretty nifty features if you're dealing with some shady merchant and don't want to take any chances.

Btw, this feature has been available for about a week now.

Another nifty feature is that you can cancel previously generated numbers if you haven't been charged using that number yet. This comes in handy say if the merchant told you the item is in stock, you ordered it, then the merchant told you it's not in stock and you have to wait xxx weeks. With this feature you can just cancel the order by cancelling the number.

I have been having troubles logging on to my Citibank account lately. Has anyone experienced the same thing?

AOLhater, there is no option for adding money to these cards. Your limit is the same limit as that of your real credit card - that is, you MUST have a citibank credit card to use this perk. Its not a fund where you deposit (through some means) an amount of money, then use the service to generate one time use numbers with the benefits listed above.

However, im sure such a service would have a market, especially for people that don't qualify to have a credit card account, but want to use such a service to draw funds from checking/savings. Interesting....................

Personally, i've used all three's virtual acct # system, amex, discover, and now this. Of these, I like citibank's most. It has most options and complete control + I earn 1% back on purchases. With amex, you have similar control, but can't control amounts or end dates. With discover, all you get is # that is diff from your regular acct #, the expiration dates however is the same... very limited with discover (unless they've changed the system from 9 months ago)
