Looks pretty slick. I can't stand how laggy/slow the current system is. Even the HD cable boxes display the guide pretty slow. I guess we'll see how much faster/better it really is.

EDIT: Looks like the new guide no longer truncates long show names, also kinda nice.

I wish we had this upgrade for Cablevision... the HD box is stupid slow ... the regular box is barely bearable.

sweet . Plus being able to watch more basketball in HD on comcast sportsnet is going to be sweet too :D. Now the local FOX affiliate needs to get their arses in gear and install the HD equipment before the super bowl arrives. hopefully Comcast will pick them up when that happens.

Is this thing going to download itself on your current box? Or do you have to get a new box to get it?

Probably just a firmware upgrade, which is automatic AFAIK.

I hope so. I hate the current guide. In order to change stations on my cable box with ReplayTV it takes almost 5 seconds.

Better than that is the new dual-HD tuner PVR, the Motorola 6412, which should be hitting all Comcast regions soon.

With the 6412 you will be able to record two different HDTV shows, while watching a saved one off the harddrive.

Me too, but will a new guide for the cable box make any difference with that? I use the ReplayTV guide, so I never see the comcast guide. This will be useful when I get cable installed in the other room though.

Well, at least with mine, the reason it takes forever is because once the replayTV changes channels it takes the cable box forever to actually do it. (and I don't mean just punch in the channels.)

Yea, same here. Is just because the boxes themselves are slow changing channels, or the software is slow? I wonder if the new guide being faster will even change that, since we're not using the guide anyway with ReplayTV?
