New-older laptop

So I got a new work laptop with admin privileges. I was thinking about tossing a game or 2 on there for when I'm on lunch break or whatever. It has 2gb ram, core 2 duo @2.5ghz, and an ATI radeon 3650 256mb.

I was thinking KOTOR 1 and 2
some emulators

anything else? never played through BG2...

You probably dont need to hit up the abandonware with that laptop. It should be able to play games that are a few years old. I would install Steam and check out some of their weekend deals. Also Gamersgate.com has some older titles for direct download for the cost of lunch and a beer.

depending on what type of work you do i would not recommend anything being installed on the laptop. I would suggest the use of emulators as they just run off of an executable. Just me being paranoid but better safe than sorry.

Some games I have been able to run (and actually played) on the t60 in my sig with Medium settings and at least 40fps consistently.

Far Cry
Quake 4
Team Fortress 2 (directx 8.1 codepath)
Portal
Counter-Strike Source
Command & Conquer 3
Max Payne 1&2
Starcraft
Warcraft 3
Lego Star Wars
Halo
Aliens V Predator 2
Beyond Good and Evil

I would say any game 2004 and earlier will run just fine. You have to start checking requirements onward

Games that did NOT run well

Company of Heroes
Painkiller (something to do with having 2 cores for a single core game I think)

You could play Morrowind with some graphic updates or try Gothic 2 (I would suggest Gothic 1 first).

Company of Heroes runs pretty good on my Dell Studio laptop, which is similar to the OP's laptop (I have a Pentium DualCore 2ghz and 3gb ram).

Other games that run well on my Studio 17 are
STALKER Shadows of Chernobyl
Bioshock
Prey
The Sims 3

Games that run not so well, but still playable with settings turned down
Ghostbusters
Mass Effect
Fallout 3

Max Payne 1
Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne
Deus Ex
Deus Ex: Invisible War
Far Cry
Starcraft
Commandos 2: Men of Courage
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis on the ScummVM emulator
Jagged Alliance 2
AoE 2 & 3

That laptop should have no problems running all but the most demanding games, as long as you don't turn the settings up too high. That's assuming it doesn't have some insane resolution, though.

On mine (in sig), I had no problems playing CS:S, HL2, WoW, Dungeon Siege (no surprise there), etc. I could probably play Oblivion with the terrain distance turned down a bit.

Yeah, im pretty sure I was GPU limited in that one. I just wasn't sure how today's mobile GPUs compare to their desktop counterparts.
