I'm going to have to disagree on an academic level.

We're talking on a practical level.

Here's how it works.

"Honey, I need more deodorant."

"Ok, I'll pick up some when I go to the store."

Wife goes to store to buy a bunch of crap, gets brand X deodorant. Husband uses brand X deodorant because he doesn't give a shit about such petty and little things and besides, the scent is mainly focused on pleasing her and others around him since the Husband becomes oblivious to the scent after 30 seconds. He might even deign to give a comment to the Wife at some point about his interpretation of the smell which may or may not affect future purchasing decisions.
