Will this processor work for my new old build? AMD A6-5400K

I just want something with a decent integrated graphics card but don't know if it meets minimum requirements. I am already doing the build because I have extra parts. I won't be needing my HDD from my current when I get my 1tb one and ssd and I already have PSU and ram. Imma buy XP for 50 bucks.

Here is what I was thinking of doing.

Don't tell me to buy win 8 please or upgrade win 7 to ultimate. Just wanna use my extra parts.

Thank you

Some of the games that will be on the system are The Witcher, Battlefield 1942 Complete, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Gothic 3, Dracula Origin, and more older games.

Is there a intel build I could do for $200 or less? I don't need RAM, PSU, or HDD. Would need XP OS, graphics card, CPU, mobo, and case.

Seriously, the easiest and cheapest thing to do is to put XP in a virtual machine (it's not getting Win8 or upgrading). A 7950, even through a VM, is easily better than any GPU you'll have a $200. Oracle's VMBox is free and good enough.

If that doesn't work, we can talk about building an extra box.

The 5400k should be good enough for that but I would still stick with intel just in case you ever want to do anything else with it. I mentioned on the other thread if you are near Overland Park you can pick up a G1610 Celeron for $35 there. If not, ASRock makes an H61 Micro ATX DGS motherboard that sells on Newegg for $45. Throw on a G540 CPU and you're at just under $100. That'll leave you with $100 for the video card, case, and DVD drive. Get the Rosewill Ranger you mentioned for $20, an Asus DVD for another $20, and you can get whatever video card you can find on sale for the remaining $60. Probably looking at a GT 640 or HD6670.

A little curious but why arent those games running on Windows 7? I have played BF1942 on both 7 and 8.

I have no room on my hdd to install them until I upgrade or build a new rig which I wanna do because I like building computers. So i'm building one with or without help.

Needs to be $230 or less. Needs xp, intel cpu with graphics card or amd with integrated graphics, mobo, and case.

so instead of buying a harddrive for your current machine you want an entirely new one?

*Sigh*

I would make some sexist remark, but everyone else is already thinking it.

Ok sorry I wanted help.

I am not doing anything until August.

I am already getting a 1TB and SSD plus 8GB more ram for my current build.

I can just sell my extra parts and I should get enough from that to get win 7 ultimate and play all those games.

I just didn't want to add a floppy to my current build and I just wanted a 2nd computer. A lot of people have more then 1 computer, ya know?

There are 7 in my house, I understand, but you are proposing a 2nd computer for gaming that will perform far worse than what you currently have that you will probably only turn on for the rare occasions you will play an older game, to be honest it just doesnt seem worth the hassle, expense, and time.

Also, can't you just download the floppy games from somewhere online? If you already own the physical game it isn't pirating :D

Totally agreed.

You have to realize when you ask a question here that you won't just get specific answers to that question, but also other advice about what you could do that would be *better* in a variety of ways. In the end people are using their own personal experience to keep you from wasting time, money, etc. and just having to do things over again. You should learn from other people's mistakes instead of repeating them yourself. When someone gives you an alternate solution to your question try not to take it the wrong way.

Listen, it's fine to want a second build, but it WILL be weaker than running a VM in your current computer and cost more. If you need WinXP, buy WinXP and put it in VMBox. There's nothing wrong with keeping an extra storage drive (HDD speed won't affect load times of music or videos), and the extra RAM will help with the VM a great deal.

I'd personally much rather work with a VM (pretty painless) than to have to deal with a second computer that's honestly not going to be very powerful in comparison.

Biggest issue with a VM is getting one that lets the guest utilize the host card well enough, I think. But I don't know much more about that issue.

I cant really complain about her wanting a 2nd build....i'm pretty much the same way. I usually build cheap builds and then give them to friends as birthday presents.

I mean, it's fun, and kinda a cool bragging point, but it's also less practical. So it's really up to dragonbat to decide how much the cool factor is worth (and how confident she is in getting a PCIe passthrough to work).

I might be able to get XP for free but I haven't talked to my uncle just yet because I can't buy anything until August.

So let's say I want to buy that processor with the integrated graphics card, good or bad? Also I will be selling the system to my friend in the long run, how will it do for WoW?

Or I could go over budget and wait on my SSD until January instead of August.

If I pull at job out of my ass but the end of the month I can do anything because I will have my own money.

Picking out parts now for a build in August (or next January!) is pretty pointless. A budget build needs to chase hot deals more than anything, and there's no way of predicting what those will be in three months.
