<< CDROM Enable DMA under Windows 2k >>

Hmmm could that be why my Toshiba drive was skipping so much with dvd's? I RMA'ed it...

Hope this allows me to put my burner on DMA. I couldn't force that thing into DMA and thought all was lost.

I got an error message and the setup program bolted when I tried to install it under Windows XP Professional Build 2481.

My Internal zip worked with 4.29s but now with 4.31s it randomly locks with the light on after inserting a disk and also freezes the computer when writing to the zip drive.
How can VIA and zip stay in business?

Burner is still in PIO mode:| Ever since I re-installed Win2k it's been that way!

Here's a question coming your way...(kinda stupid?...)

do you uninstall the previous versions of the 4-in-1's or do you just go ahead and run the setup as your system is? I guess ideally, you do a clean install of the OS but that's a little troublesome for something that I never really see help me in performance or stability.

But since I plan on installing the damn thing, thought I'd ask.

The 4.27 version should be uninstalled first. That version mis-identifies IDE as SCSI; produces BSOD if upgraded instead of uninstalling & then installing the newer version.

Does WONDERS for my cdrom cpu utilization. From 99% to 20% when copying a whole cd to hd.

I got a registry error with Win ME. For some reason, now any 12.xx NVidia drivers have problems on reboot. Optimal refresh somehow displays default settings, but displays properly if I switch around after reboot. So I have gone back to 6.50 for the time being. I could get the AGP 4.05c driver to install by itself, though. Ugh.

Is there a site (or a kind person) that shows which VIA driver would be best for a specific OS? I'm still running 98SE, and all I see are patches for WinME, Win2K, etc. Is it possible that these newer drivers would worsen the performance of the earlier OS?
