Do you deal in them or something? I'm still pissed off it went free a month or so after I bought it.

You have a superior account for having bought the game. Free accounts can pick up random items, but they can't trade items, not sure if they can craft.

I want to have one of every weapon, and a handful of hats that I like. I'm not a dealer, that requires having things of value.

Jump into a game, shoot people for 30 minutes, leave. That's all I ever do in the game, I don't know about trading or crafting :(

You should be getting random item drops, press Escape, go to Items on the left-side. That opens your backpack, which will show all the items you've acquired (it won't show the default weapons).

Dropped items are most commonly weapons or crates. Crates will need a purchased key to open, so most people don't bother with them. You can also get some other drops, such as hats, paint, dueling games, that sort of thing - those are much much much rarer. I've gotten one paint drop and two dueling game drops in six months of playing during random drops.

Trading is done by going to the Items interface again. On the bottom, it shows Backpack at far left. Also on the bottom are three other icons, one of them is Crafting (anvil), Trading (a box?), and the Store (I forget the icon, it's far right).

Click on Trading, it lets you choose from a specific ID, friends list, or current server.

Crafting lets you take items and make items. There is a blueprints list in the items area that will tell you what can be done.

Yeah I have some stuff there. Is there a list of items that have some value/rarity?

If the weapon's name is in yellow, it is a normal weapon, probably not all that valuable. But it's still a weapon, and you may find it useful for killing thy enemies.
If the weapon's name is any other color than yellow, it is more valuable than the other weapons. This includes Vintage, Strange, Unusual, Genuine, and things like that.
If it is a crate, it is nearly worthless, unless it is series 19/20/21, then somebody might like it. But even still, it's not worth much.

If it is a paint, or a dueling mini-game, or a hat, is has some value, and should be kept. Paint can be used on most of your items to color them. Dueling mini-game lets you challenge people to one on one statistical combat during normal games; I don't see the appeal personally. Hats are considerably more valuable than weapons, but very few have any practical utility.

What class(es) and role(s) do you usually play? For example, spy checking pyro, battlement jumping attack soldier, grate defense demoman, fatty-in-the-middle heavy?

The second biggest advantage I get from the Black Box is related to the first. +15 HP if it does damage to an opponent is obviously a huge help. But also very important is that +15 HP display that shows you did hurt somebody, meaning I can fire just behind corners, and the splash will let me know if somebody is back there. And then if I do get a +15, I reload, and salvo all three into the corner. Many times that's a kill.

I camp the grate. Frequently. Nearly continuously. That gives me four corners to cover, two just inside our doors, two just outside the doors. The inside ones I usually see them come into the base, or see their gunfire at our guys in there. So I just empty the rockets into their corner, switch to shotgun, and wait for them to try to run, if it's a lone small class.

If it's a heavy, or a heavy/medic, I'll empty the rockets and reload them while I wait for the attack.

Mostly, I loose a rocket every 10 seconds or so at the outside corners. Those are frequent hiding places; though unfortunately I can't cover the center zone. But anyways, lots of people like to hide there, they'll reload, catch their breath, think about their attack, and wait for reinforcements to group.

While they sit there, my lone rocket comes in, lands near their feet. It doesn't do a lot of damage, but it gives me the +15 alert, and unless the opponent is really smart and/or has seen me already that match, they shrug it off as a random rocket. It's usually not enough damage to be a serious problem. One second later, three rockets are fired, landing over a 1.6 second interval. A small class will often die; engineers, spies, scouts, maybe a pyro or medic. A dispenser or teleporter will usually go down. Heavies, soldiers, and demos tend to survive it.

Unfortunately, the fire rate is too low, and I don't have enough rocketry. The rocket launcher or DH would give me four rockets, but at the loss of the +15 marker, plus the DH doesn't have the splash this tactic uses.

pyro, sometimes heavy and sniper.

For a defensive heavy, Brass Beast. For an offensive heavy, maybe a Brass Beast, or definitely consider a Tomislav (that's one of the new weapons). For melee, most people run either Gloves of Running Urgently, or something steel fists. Secondary weapon is default Shotgun, Sandvich is good too.

Pyro, Backburner is great if you are into defense and can get behind your enemy (i.e. dropping down). Degreaser is good, it gives faster weapon switches at the cost of afterburn damage. For your secondary, Detonator is an improved Flare Gun, I still like Shotgun for reliable classic damage. As for the melee, you have a ton of options. If you like combat, probably a Back Scratcher, or if you use Flamethrower/Degreaser, consider the Axtinguisher. If you do defense, Homewrecker to deal with spies.

Sniper, Sydney Sleeper isn't bad, especially if you struggle for headshots. Huntsman is good for close combat or luck. Razorback protects from spies, Jarate is helpful sometimes.

I doubt a backup will cover the radio programming, and I have not had any problems with my current radio program.
