My previous estimate of four extra shifts I could have picked up for having heard about them would be about $150, which would be a bit of that.

Comparing Thunderbolt versus Bionic.

HTC versus Motorola.
Notoriously poor battery life versus prospective better battery life.
Single core versus dual core.
768MB RAM versus 512MB DDR2 RAM.

Problem is... the Bionic has no firm release date, and Verizon will soon be going to tiered data plans, which I want to avoid.

Motorola also is... harder to root, from what I've read? Also, dual core might not get utilized for a while, the memory is smaller (though faster), maybe there will be some hardware issues with a first dual core?

Oh yeah, Motorola has a better screen. qHD 960x540 versus something LCD 800x480, both on 4.3".

But the importance of getting on unlimited data I think must outweigh these unanswerable questions, and then I'll end up upgrading in two years to whatever monster has come out then, but hopefully with my grandfathered unlimited data.

Yeah, I'll just get TB so I have the unlimited grandfathered in, and wait for two years before getting whatever else shows up.

I figure it's about time I get a fancy electronic gadget to learn, and way past time I got a modern cellphone.
