I've never touched it, but ever since the last Opera upgrade, I've been getting more popups, and frequently from sites that never were a problem before.

Google actually disables all Google services in Opera. If you right click go to Edit Site Prefrences go to advanced? I think and mask as Firefox or IE they work fine.

As far as the popups check what level your popup blocker is on in your prefrences

Also to use Opera built in adblockers (thats what urlfilter.ini is)

just save the file where it tells you and it will block almost all ads for you.

Yea so its letting popups through that you aren't blocking the ads for. Go to the fanboy list and enable the adblock and it should eliminate all the popup issues.
