I have a license for office2007, am currently using an office 2010 trial which runs up soon. buy 2010, or will a new one be out soon?

the big "new release"
that OUGHT to be given as an UPDATE to those who've already paid

will be SOLD whenever those moneygrubbers think they can make a buck off

your hide

like we had to pay all over again for Windows 7 which
OUGHT TO HAVE BEEN
an update to Vista

Microsoft is ALL about the $$$

at every turn, whenever possible,
go AWAY from proprietary software like MS

EMBRACE and NURTURE Open Source,

even help contribute to its development

with your $

and/or your programming expertise

In case you're looking for an opportunity to help.

For example, Redmine / Chiliproject could use some new vigor

because it's a bitch trying to set it up to work on Windows

+1

That's why I went with OpenOffice and now LibreOffice

IMHO M$ Office is better but not worth what M$ asks for it and the fact that there 're no free upgrades to newer versions doesn't sit well with me. It's like loyal users should be punished again and again.

IMNSHO, Office used to be better, but 2007 and 2010 are PITAs, to me.

I suppose that you are refering to the "improved" menu that M$ introduced in office 2007.

That's another reason I'm sticking with Libreoffice.

Mostly, yes. 2010 is slightly improved over 2007, but content creation and engineering apps have been doing it right for quite a long time, with dockable palettes. Understandably the free-floating kind would be annoyances, but collapsible sidebar implementations instead of the Ribbon, and not moving file, save, print, etc., would have been preferable. Also, the ribbon obfuscates what the keyboard shortcuts are for visible action.

Office 2010 is fantastic. For me personally I would just go ahead and get that. I LOVE it. There is honestly very little I would change about it.

I use 2010 at work and i think it's great. Looking forward to the next version to see what they've improved.
Funnily, I just upgraded someone from 03 to 2010 and they liked the new format and didn't find it too disorienting - not exactly what i expected to hear so quickly.

Love Office 2010. All the open format BS doesn't mean crap when MS puts out this good of a product.

Also, Ribbon in 2010 is awesome anyone who says otherwise is an old fogy and probably hasn't tried it.

I'll be to curious to see if Office 15 features the improved Ribbon that is in the Win8 Explorer interface - seems to be more KB-shortcut-friendly. Admittedly, I could not care less, as I'm not a huge KB shortcut user. For some things but I am not a wizard with it (never cared to study it all up - though if I was more of an Office wizard and used more functions that might be different). The Ribbon in 2010 was a great update to 2007 version.

I had no real desire to upgrade to 2010 from 2007, simply because I didn't feel like paying a high price.
But a $10 upgrade through the Home Use Program, and I got it the moment I found out I was eligible. 😀 Could not be more satisfied. Unless I can get it for quite a steal, I probably won't care about 15 until it's affordable (or I make far more money and it feels comparably cheap).

Honestly, the only reason I haven't given Open/LibreOffice a try as of late, is because of the return to the ridiculous old-school menu system. It's actually a bother when few apps I use have maintained that approach. Modern browsers + Win7 approach and Office 2007/2010 have completely acclimated me toward menu systems that are not at all like the original File Menu approach - and I don't care to take a step backward like that. 😛
