holy awesome editing and glitching batman

If you go to this website, it's the first song playing on the '50 free' player. Song just got released tonight. Sounds AMAZING in headphones. Seriously.

If you're curious about the disgusting, grueling, groove nasty drumming, that's Gavin Harrison.

Here he is on the David Letterman show. Letterman sought out the best of the best drummers, and he showcased them for a week. Only a few guys came on and Gavin was one of them.

Update: Cd is just now getting released this week. I found another track on youtube that someone just posted.

This one isn't nearly as heavy, and has a really slow, crawling melodic feel to it. Eerie and beautiful at the same time. Very well done.

I like the singing!

He's very chill and subtle. If you aren't used to it, give it a few listens. It will grow on you. He might seem monotoned at first but he's actually very articulate in everything.

First album is the only good one. Matheos lost something in the song writing department since then.

OSI has definetly become more 'coherent' in their songwriting. Most of the songs are structured by Kevin Moore though, not Matheos. Matheos comes up with a lot of the musical ideas, but KevMo takes it and gets all 'aphex twin/reznor' on it and cuts everything up.

With the first CD, it was mostly an experiment. This had it's own appeal, but they're onto more consistent songwriting, which is supposed to be the highlight of the new cd (according to KevMo).

Pretty good, though I agree with HamburgerBoy that the original OSI album was the best. The song definitely has some Porcupine Tree and Opeth influences.

Very nice on Gavin Harrison on Letterman; I wonder what Danny Carey would do in the same environment; playing with the CBS band is just like jamming with Volto!

Here's some others that I found:

Buddy Rich - Impossible Drum Solo <-- holy shit, truly legit. How the fuck do you even count this towards the end?

Neil Peart (Drum Solo Week) <--- omg I always blow my load at this drumset. Love the time machine cymbals

Re: OSI song

1. Intro - NIN/Aphex Twin for sure, lots of L/R play that I love when I'm under the influence
2. Singer is love or hate (as evidenced by the last OSI thread). I, like the OP, enjoy his voice
3. Guitar riffs remind me of Filter.
4. The whole song was okay, didn't love it like most of the tracks in BLOOD. Ended way too abruptly for me, and was too short.

I'll keep an ear out for the rest of the CD.

About it being short, I felt the same way. They could have rode the groove out for another minute or so. However, they did say this CD was sticking to a more 'coherent' songwriting structure so this could be a sign of that.
