Well, I've just installed my new Xpertvision 7900GT 512 and I'm using Xtrem-G 84.43 v2 with it, and the IQ is gorgeous compared to 91.31, which is one weird driver.

The 7900 has cleared up the one thing I didn't like about my 6800/6600, nasty shimmering in textures wih an alpha component (very good example is the gulianno bridge in Mafia, had nasty fresnel lens effect on nv4x, rock solid and properly rendered on G7x).

Oh, and the claims that G7x shimmers worse than NV4x - guess what? It's another fanATic fantasy!.... (yes Ackmed, I'm looking at YOU!)

Do you have high quality in the drivers for the 6800 and the 7900? That would make a difference. I was under the impresion that they didn't change too much between the 6800 and 7800 besides mods to shaders. Could these mods result in lower amount of shimmering?

A lot of the time I run quality. Things only start going badly downhill when you choose performance and high performance.

About the alpha channels, believe me I tried everything, including contacting nvidia's driver team through Rollo (this is before he was banned, and he can be helpful for things like this) to get that particular issue fixed.

You haven't answered my question.

Where did I say that pure video should be free?

From my personal experience I notice that it shimmers alot and I mean ALOT less with high quality, I also notice that for some reason more AA helps too.

Far from it. If you set both cards to quality (i.e. the default setting most benchmarkers use) the G7x series is far worse than the R5xx and worse even than the NV4x series.

G7x quallity mode is unusable in most games to horrendous mip-map crawling, shimmering and texture wiggling.

I can't speak for R5xx, but I can speak for BOTH nv4x and G7x seeing as I own both cards and run one on a 20" samsung CRT and one on a 19" philips CRT, and I can set them identically (except for T:AA). The 7900's IQ is overall superior to the 6800 GT's IMHO.

I don't know BFG10K I wouldn't say that the quality mode is unusable. I used it for along time before switching to high quality in BF2. It didn't bother me that bad, of course now though when I go back to using quality I can tell a big difference. My eyes have been pampered.

Since you haven't answered my PM, I'll ask you again here.

Where did I ever say that purevideo should be free, Gstandfor?
