Looks like the Power of 3 is the new graphics cards. How can overclockers.co.uk get away with leaking NDA info?

no real competition to keep the price low. :(

If it outperforms a X850XTPE at all, offers the 7800GTX feature set, don't you think that is a fair price at launch?

Depends on how much it outperforms, if its only say 10%, not much of an upgrade to spend money on?

It doesn't have to be priced to be an attractive upgrade for X850XT PE owners, it only has to be priced comparably to the X850XTPE for it to be a better deal and stop all new sales of X850XTPEs.

Perhaps. But I'm going to assume that a good portion of consumers who would consider spending $400 on a graphics card already own at least a 6800 GT or higher product already.

Up till you mentioned it, i said nothing about "fair" . . . the usual price would be $399, IF there was a competing product from ati - there isn't. :(

Since you asked - personally, i think $399 is "fair". . . . nVidia is 'gouging' [ok, i know it's not really gouging . . . try 'maximizing profit'] because there is no real competition . . . of course it will also keep the x850xtPE from quickly dropping in price. ;)

With 7800gtx's at 500 and somtimes below, the retailers are going to have to drop their prices to 400, or people will just spend an extra 30-50 dollars on the gtx.

that doesn't affect nVidia's profit margin. . . . no doubt we will see the GT near $399 - but IF you want one on launch day, you'll probably pay $450 [which is Waay better than the 6800/x800 series hard-to-get OVERinflated prices for months after launch]

better to wait for a month after these cards are launched...it should come down to about 400 since the GTX is already selling below 500 in some places. i feel its at a good price at the moment but 400 would be great.

The problem with your theory is there are no comparable goods for substitution at $350-$375.. (most likely anyway)

So vendors have no reason to lower the price to that level, which in turn drives down the price of all 6800s to the $200-$300 level?

Nope, don't see it anytime soon, especially if all ATI has to offer are X800 cards in competition.

Venders do too have a reason to drop prices. It's called competition with other venders.

Err, yeah, that's why the price of gas is so wildly different when you drive down the street.
;)

Competition with other vendors is well and good, but I don't think you'll be seeing $350 7800GTs while they have no competition any time soon. Time will tell.

This whole 7800gt vs x850 thing makes sense because they're about the same price, but the 7800gt has more pipes, faster clocks, and Shader model 3.

I'd hope people realize not to buy the x850...but...there are those weird people out there.

I'm weird. Not in the way about though.

I like donuts. They made me sick yesterday though.

Hopefully, the GT will lower it's price later on.

Unless you can unlock pipes on the 7800gt, i dont know. I'd spend an extra $30 for the extra performance gain.

For 50 bucks or less more you could get a gtx. It was better at 399.

The GTX was priced at $600, and it's been dropping fast. I suspect the GT will be under $400 in a few weeks.
