New Nvidia Geforce 6800 Question

I've done brief reading on the new Nvidia cards and have a newbie question. Why wouldn't the 6800 cards have more memory than the previous generation cards? Wouldn't this boost performance as well or not? I guess I'm not sure of the role of video memory plays in the whole scheme of things.

the memory dosnt boost performance....thats why the 256MB that a lot of cards have now is really wasted...in a year, maybe a 256 or higher might be good, but with memory prices where they are right now...it will keep the costs "down" on these boards...if you call 500$ instead of 600$ "more affordable"...lol

Hi.

They are actually going to release a 512MB version.

The reasons, that greater memory on graphics cards is not released is that games, apps, etc, still don't fully utilise 128MB. Im some cases, 256MB versions, are actually slower, than 128MB.
