Guru3D users have commented that there is an issue with the XP Beta causing the graphics card fan to run at a full 100%. Problem can be countered with Rivatuner.

AA also appears to fixed when using gaming profiles.

They seem to be the same drivers VR-Zone used in their Beta Preview and they say they're not optimized....

Damn, no Vista 64 drivers yet. :( And I just got Crysis retail today too! While normally I don't get too excited about 3-4FPS increases in a game, that's a pretty big boost for Crysis when that 3-4FPS is a 20% boost in performance.

I don't know, I was really thinking about taking the links down as these drivers seem to be a lot more "Beta" than the usual ones.

I've installed them and Crysis seems to be a little bit faster on Very High settings, but not by much. Haven't had time to try other games.

yea i'd much rather NVIDIA release REAL drivers that are guaranteed to work with real improvements @ a steady pace. rather than beta everything and release a real drive semi-annually

I just checked the nvidia website and those are NOT listed in their beta section (it lists 169.28 as latest beta). Either they were pulled, or they were never there... Only way to get those is directly off the ftp.
EDIT: I just noticed that the FTP link provided here is not for nvidia itself but a third party...

So I wouldn't be surprised if they are EXTRA buggy for beta drivers.

Per my previous post these drivers were used in a Beta Preview at VR-Zone ...

They've never been on Nvidia's and they weren't pulled. As Boyd said they were leaked.

Remeber Nvidia works on several sets of drivers at one time. That way when they do not work right, the just leave it at a dead end, and move on to another set. That way they always have drivers in the pipeline fairly close together and come out looking like a hero for many constant updates, unlike ATI.

Is this a joke? I'd much rather have ATi's monthly WHQL and officially supported drivers than the random beta scraps nVidia throws to the public.

Yes this is a joke, I guess you missed the punch line above. These drivers were leaked and weren't given to the public as a "scrap" from Nvidia. They were given to the public by some Japanese Website. Generally the Nvidia Beta Drivers which they post on their website are very stable and I've been using the various beta drivers almost exclusively since I moved to Nvidia last August. Before that I was an ATI guy for the prior 4 video cards I've owned. Which way is better, you're entitled to you opinion. To me as long as the driver's stable, I couldn't give a rats-ass when it's released or which company releases it, ATI or Nvidia.

What's a joke? The bit I quoted that you didn't even post? Are you speaking for him now?

Uh-huh, and how did that Japanese website get them?

They aren?t stable though. The latest official and beta 169.xx can't even apply AA to Direct3D applications when using profiles, and the 17x.xx drivers keep the fan at 100% and can't even run some games.

Again given the choice between "testing" nVidia's irregular betas and ATi's monthly WHQL drivers I'd pick the latter.

Your an obvious fanboy, which is ok, as long as you don't over-do it. 90% of the ATI drivers I have used suck. Period. Every time I give ATI a shot, I get disappointed.

I was about to sit down and answer every one of your "points" but I'm not even going to try. It's amazing, this is a nice simple freaking leaked Beta release thread and you've now turned it into another bullcrap ATI vs. Nvida thing. Personally I don't play for either team as I stated in my last post, but it's pretty obvious you do. So you have fun. I'm not playing,

Edit:

Damn, deal me in .....

1. No I wasn't speaking for "him". I was speaking to both of you which is why I quoted the two of you as I did.

2. How did the Japanese Website get them? Hummm, let me count the ways. I really couldn't tell you as my Crystal Ball is all out of batteries. Glad yours is working though.

3. It's been said many times in this thread that the 171.16 drivers were leaked by someone and are not stable, I even mentioned the Fan thing as well as some other bugs in the first few posts of this thread. As far as Profiles go with the 169.xx Drivers, I don't use Profiles personally, but yeah they're not working well at the moment. And ATI's Driver's WHQL's are perfect all of the time right? Please, it's not even worth commenting on. Both comapnies have their driver issues.

4. Also as I said in my previous post. If you think that the ATI release paradigm is the best way, well that's just swell and you're entitled to your opinion, just as I'm entitled to mine.

Out of my last seven video cards five have been nVidia. Tell me, who am I a fanboy of?

What I am is a fan of good driver support which is why I vastly prefer ATi's release paradigm to nVidia's.

I didn't turn anything into ATi vs nVidia, I was responding to a comment that had already been made.

No joke. I think they are not even "leaked drivers", but rather dead end drivers. Yes Nvidia does leak, or rather put out beta drivers that have not pass the MS test. Some times, the dead drivers do see light of day, by either Nvidia getting hacked, or a disgruntled employee, or what ever reason when they should not. Best advice, if its not the official driver, dont get high hopes it will do anything for you. Be prepared to drop back to official drivers and not complain about "beta". And if they work, then thats awsome. Many people reported good sucess with the .28 drivers, all I got was a warmer video card and a lower 3dmark06 score.
