New Nvidia Beta Driver Released Today....169.09

You mean performance decrease. Nvidia's last drivers were supposedly cheating in Crysis.

good grief not that nonsense again. cheating? what do you want them to NOT provide the best performance they can?

**Supposedly** is the operative word. I believe it was a Bug not a Feature. 🙂

thank you for posting this. hopefully this driver will have a cod4 sli profile like the 169.04 without breaking vsync in sli.

That's why I said supposedly. 😉

It's still had errors with the last drivers. Supposedly this driver fixes that issue. 😛

It was cheating or it was bug. I mean that HD2900XT had trouble in Call of Juares earlier; that Radeon card didn't render everything. Also AA weren't working and HD2900XT didn't do everything it was supposed to do. Then came new drivers and HD2900XT did everything it was supposed to do and there was performance increase at the same time. That weren't cheating..it was simple bug in drivers.

If this thing with 169.04 drivers is bug then there might be performance increases. Almost everyone who have tested are saying that 169.09's performance is either the same as with .04 or little bit better. So far found only one guy saying that his performance dropped. No mentions about that render bug.

What is this cheating / bug that everyone keeps talking about in this thread?

The last ForceWare beta reduced the quality of water reflections in Crysis. Some say that it was on purpose as a way to get more speed but that it was unethical.

For the second time the drivers "Supposedly" fixed this issue.

The way Nvidia did it though is when you renamed the "Crysis" executable file to something else the bug wasn't present.

So performance dropped for 1 guy. That actually isn't telling much since it's only 1 guy but if the performance does drop for everybody Nvidia was trying to be sneaky.

Thats been fixed. But in nvnews, some are seeing performance increase with it.

Anyway, SLi is improving driver by driver. 40~45% is a big boost from what it was previously before. I think by the time the real game is launched, we are going to see at least 60~70% through Cryteck patches and further improvements from the driver side.

According to the editors at hardforums, Crytek is going to release a patch soon that will add quite a few percent improvement over this driver.

I tried renaming the Crysis.exe to Crysix.exe with the 169.04 drivers also, and had the same results as the "1 guy" you referenced.

from my post in that thread:

Crysis.exe DX10 1680x1050 all settings High except Shadow quality = Medium and Post Processing quality = Low 4xAA/16xAF: Play Time: 94.17s, Average FPS: 21.24

Crysix.exe DX10 1680x1050 all settings High except Shadow quality = Medium and Post Processing quality = Low 4xAA/16xAF: Play Time: 124.37s, Average FPS: 16.08

I'll have to try out the new drivers later on this evening...

edit: those numbers were with a single 8800GT, not the current GTX in my sig.

It looks like I lost about 1.5FPS. 1024x768, 2xAA, full screen with everything on very high. I am now getting an average of 21.87 fps, with min fps of 15.48 and max of 25.39. 8800GT oc'd to 750/1879/1898.

I just did the benchmark again with everything on very high, except shadaows were set to medium. This got me an average of 23.87FPS.

Crysis is a really depressing game.

What CPU do you have?

How much of a quality difference is there between very high and high?

I am using a Q6600 oc'd to 2.8ghz. I need to get a couple sticks of DDR2 800mhz to get my OC up higher. I am scoring 13477 on 3dMark06.

Jesus. Crysis is just a poorly coded game. It doesnt look THAT much better than COD4 or UT3 to justify it's fucking system requirements.

I think Crysis is one of the best looking games I have every played. I am not saying other programs dont look good. COD4 is amazing. But it is on an older engine, that does not have some features that Crysis does. Is anyone else having trouble with 3dmark06 getting an orb after a test. The program tells me submision failed.
