I'm a little new to this DSR thing. What's so great about it? I'd imagine most setups are bottlenecked by the GPU when it comes to 1080p and above. Why would someone want to sacrifice performance to see the same number of pixels?
instead of just saying you are new why not read up and do a few minutes of research? its MAIN focus is on games where you have plenty of gpu power left. the majority of games are not all that demanding so with a 680 or above you can easily run many games at 2560x1440 or maybe higher. heck I can run plenty of games at 4k now with a 980.

I think his question was valid and you need to quit telling others to "do a search" especially for new technology.

Its funny you should point out, but i did research it for a few minutes before asking. I got the basic gist of it from their promo video, hence the question of why, instead of what. Its kind of off-putting to be called out by regulars for asking.

Thank you, though for at least explaining instead of leaving me hanging.

Is DSR any different from SSAA?
It is SSAA.

What they have addition to the 'normal' SSAA is the custom resolve/scaling to display resolution. (13 tap gaussian)
It makes it possible to have decent quality when downscaling from non-power of two resolution and adjust softness of the final image.

Result should be better than with boxfilter that the normal downscaling uses.

DSR is pretty interesting,my 18.5 768p screen has a ppi of about 103 now with the 1.5x option which is comparable to a 21.5'' 1080p screen. 1.78x brings me above 110 which is about what standard 1440p screens have and well 1.78x and above hurts my eyes lol. Huds are to small including text.

Wonder if my experience would be the same on my 26'' 720p t.v if i set up a 3 or 4x adjustment?

Read elsewhere here that setting the amount of blur to 25% pretty much solved that issue. When I got DSR working changing it to 25% worked pretty dang well. Looks great IMO.

Just keep in mind, when using it, unless you have scale control of your games interface, you could have issues. On a 24" screen, I upped DSR to 2560x1600 and while it looked great, the text was difficult to read and icons were tiny. There was an in-game UI control, but it maxes out at 125% (though you can do 125 on top of that I think).

What's the difference between this dsr thing and the "old style" scaling to gpu and adding an imaginary custom resolution?

Installed the Drivers this morning on my 3770k rig with 2 GTX670 FTWs in SLI and played around with the DSR in the option box. Pretty neat. I have that rig hooked up to a 27" 1920x1080 monitor so I'll try COD Ghost tonight at 2560x1440 (I think that 1.78 x 1920x1080) and let you know how it plays.

Yeah I messed with the sliders too, still looked like garbage. :\

Anyone getting issues with rivatuners 6.2 OSD with this driver?I usually have my fps, vram, core clock and gpu usage posted but the vram number has gone bunkers.

I've not, but then I have mine output to a graph on my keyboard's display. It still seems to be behaving. How much Vram do you have?

I personally enjoy this DSR. My 26'' 720p t.v used to go bonkers when i attempted any resolution custom above or below 768p over vga on this thing cause of a faulty hardware scaler i believe but now i can go to 2732x1536 or 4x DSR with zero issues lol.

Some games work at different settings and its awesome to adjust them on the fly in-game.WOT works with 2.25x due to text and hud, BF3 works with 2.25 and BF4 works with x3 on this t.v only cause of the adjustable hud:) .

These drivers fixed the Doom 3 BFG issue I reported.

Now for the Bulletstorm issue to be fixed...

Looks to have fixed issue where running Samsung Magician causes window mode only in BF4. It still launches in window mode but some toggling gives full screen upon level load.

Played a bit of COD Ghost on my 3770k with 2 GTX670s in SLI with DSR enabled to 1.78 on a 1920x1080 monitor. Under COD options the 2560x1440 option appeared but for some reason the play was jerky. Perhaps my other settings were too high. I'll try over the weekend to adjust them. I also have a FX8350 with a single GTX780 Classified with a 1920x1200 monitor so I'll try it on that. Perhaps the 2G vram on the 670 affects the higher resolution play.

The fact that I could even enable a higher resolution via DSR is quite cool! Nice feature.

Tried DSR on Guild Wars 2 on my U3011.

It makes things look not as sharp, kinda like I'm playing underwater or something. It's a shame, since GW2 is pretty much the only game I play atm.
