Leaked NV20 Details!
Thanks to Mr. Gabdab who called on our Discussion Board today morning, we got new information about the upcoming graphics solution from NVIDIA - NV20 aka GeForce III. According to this post in our Hardware Discussions Forum, here is what we may expect from NVIDIA in November:

Core: 300MHz;
Memory: 200MHz DDR SDRAM;
256bit memory bus;
12.8GB/sec memory bus bandwidth;
Fillrate 1.8Gpixel/sec (5.4Gtexel/sec);
6 rendering pipelines with 3 texturing units each;
0.15 micron manufacturing technology.
Besides, NV20 should have a greatly improved T&L engine and should be fully compliant with DirectX 8.0. As far as the performance goes, it is expected to be just outstanding: at the resolution set to 1600x1200x32 the system built with an Intel Pentium III CPU shows around 100fps in Quake3.
The new wonder from NVIDIA is supposed to be presented at COMDEX Fall 2000 and should cost around ~$800.
P.S.: As you can see, this info is absolutely different from what has been said before about NV20. Therefore we cannot vouch for the truth of these specs. You are most welcome to discuss this information

Wow the next killer for $800!!!!!!!

100fps with q3 in 1600x1200x32!!!!!!!!

But by the time the price has dropped enough for anyone to actually consider buying it, who knows what else will be out.

$800usd is absolutley INSANE.

Links? And who is this guy? And it will NOT cost $800. nVidia isn't STUPID!

<< i doubt 300Mhz core. >>

Why, the GTS Ultra already does 250MHz w/.18 microns. 300MHz should be a piece of cake at .15 micron

Its a little more complicated than "just 300Mhz=0.15 micron". I am not saying that this is impossible, but the yields will (most likely) be low. 275Mhz is a more realistic figure. 300Mhz will most likely (IMO) be the GF3 (Ultra or Pro)... We never know

I'm sticking with 300MHz. That's the number we've all been hearing for the past 6 months.

It can't be $800. That'd be the cost of a CPU, motherboard, ram, and a harddrive. Whoever would pay $800 for that has got to be some crazy fool. :)

I remember the time when a CPU, a MoBo and RAM were the most expensive things in my computer. But with 800$ for a video card?????????? If it's true, it's really really uncool. You can get a CPU, a MoBo and RAM for this, and I mean, than you have _quality_ components!

800 must be BS, there's simply NO WAY they'd intro it at that price, it would kill it before it even hits the street.

$800 is too much.. even for me. I am willing to give up $450-500 for the best GPU. I am guessing GF5 will be around $2500? LOL

Hmm... take a look here:

"Memory: 200MHz DDR SDRAM;
256bit memory bus;
12.8GB/sec memory bus bandwidth"

200x256x2/8=12.8GB

Thats x2 the GF2 bandwidth due to the 256bit wide bus... This will (if its sucessful) be the first consumer video card to have a 256bit wide memory pipeline.

Is that with FSAA on or not??? If they quad the processing power it would be nice, but could they fix the damn 2d a little too?

It would be nice to see some "Next Gen" FSAA and T&L hardware rendering, and maybe a 360+Mhz RAMDAC for 2D.

My next computer will require a 3rd mortgage!!!

Seriously though, $800 buck seems to be speculation. It seems like a guess based on the current GF2. I'm sure nVidia could charge $800 for a 300Mhz Core/400Mhz memory video card if they wanted to commit corporate suicide. Unfortunatly, I don't think this beast will be cheap either.

My take: $350 - $500 for initial cards at release.

Well NVIDIA has no competition like Intel in the pre Athlon time!
In this state you can set the price free!
And again NVIDIA wipes the floor
Even the Radeon looks pale compared to the NV20!

800 doesnt sound to far fetch. Think about the cost to manufacture a PCB that can handle 256bit path. Think how much memory this will come with, prob 64MB worth. Still it is insane.

Those specs are fake, just look at the memory. I don't even think 256 bit DDR exists, let alone anywhere near mass production. Plus, a 256 bit memory interface would make the chip expensive, because of all the extra pins. Sorry to spoil your fun. Unless they use segmented memory or a dual channel interface, its not happening. And even f they do, the chip will be expensive. Sorry to spoil your fun.

it arent impossible to make a 256bit datapath with 2banks of 128bit DDR memory (i.e. dual channaling) if they charge u $800 for it

remmeber even a V5 has an 'effective' 256bit datapath to memory also
just that they are placed seperately into 2 cores instead of 1
