I got a Toshiba A105-2081 yesterday with only 256mb DDR2 SODIMM 200pin PC-4200 ram so I decided to hit up the local bestbuy for a memory upgrade. At first I got the cheapest they had in a 2x512 config (forgot the brand name, but it sounded very generic) and popped both in. It powers up and then resets, repeating itself and not posting at all. So i figure it's just an incompatibility issue and take it back to get 2 sticks of Corsair value select 512mb sticks of the same configuration. Still no boot! It even says "compatibility tested" with Toshiba notebooks listed on the packaging.

I've made sure it wasn't simply bad ram sticks with both sets (kinda unlikely either way) by switching slots and also only running 1 chip at a time and I'm still getting nothing :(. I'm pretty sure I'm not doing anything wrong since the original stick still works just fine.

I noticed the BIOS is at version 1.8 so I found a couple BIOS flash updates (Those scare me) but none of the updates list RAM compatibility fixes. The latest BIOS is v2.1 released just last month. I'm not sure what else I can do at this point. Can anyone tell me what's going on? This is my first notebook so I dont' really know the ins and outs yet. I think it may have something to do with the older BIOS version but I've never flashed a BIOS before and I've heard really bad horror stories with people bricking their systems. Help :(

*EDIT* It turns out the BIOS flash was alot simpler than I thought it'd be. But i'm still not able to boot with the new ram so it rules a BIOS issue out.
