New Noctua "140mm" fan

This looks like it should be a very good fan, but I'm pretty disappointed in the 140mm adapter - plastic tabs that you screw to the frame in order to mount in a 140mm space.

Specs look pretty decent. The airflow at full speed is about the same as a S-Flex SFF21F, while the noise level is about 10-12dB quieter. I might have to pickup a few to see if they really are better than the S-Flex's that I have in my server and HTPC (once I do some measurements to see that they fit in the HTPC).
 
Someone really needs to create some kind of industry standard for testing fans so that you can actually compare ratings. (Or send them to a third party lab thing)
Like, SilenX's "7dba" fans, which actually can't be measured unless you're testing in space, in a sealed environment with artificial gravity and completed isolated from anything that could possibly vibrate the environment and create ambient noise.
Noctua fans are pretty nice, though a bit pricey.
 
Actually in real world testing Noctua fans cannot match their specifications:

"Although the Noctua NF-P12 spins at just 1,300rpm, its nine-blade design is supposed to produce lots of static pressure at this low rotational speed. The NF-P12?s speed can be adjusted by two resistor cables that slow it down to 1,100rpm or 900rpm. At 900rpm, the NF-P12 failed to inflate the black sack, so its cfm would appear to be 6cfm or less. At 1,100rpm, it produced 18cfm and emitted 27.2dBA. At full speed, it shifted 34cfm but was a rather noisy 32.8dBA. As such, despite including vibration-absorbing rubber pins, the NF-P12 isn?t really ideal at any of its three speed settings." - Bit-Tech.net

So going by specifications alone is meaningless. Gentle Typhoons AP14/15 are the ones to beat right now.

all this copper reminds me...I dug my SLK-900A+92mm Vantec Tornado outta the closet the other day...
